Everyone in Concacaf doing well is good for the US, and that incudes Mexico. It helps us in the rankings, It makes the Gold cup more important, It makes the CCL better.

I am definitely rooting for Costa Rica. I loved it while I was there for a vacation, and they are representing CONCACAF very well.

FWIW, I do consider Mexico to be obviously our biggest rival, and would never root for them, but this board does have a bit of a "OMG I hate Mexicans even more than you do!" complex.

I thought I hated Messicans as much as the next red blooded "Merican, but I will admit that I was pulling for them against Brazil.
I want to think that it had as much to do with Brazil as much as rooting for Messicans, but I did root for El Tri in that game.

And if the hate is directed at fans, Mexican fans well deserve it as they have literally through shite/ piss/ throw up among other things at US fans including women and children during matches.

It might be over the top but that's half the fun of a message board. Or a watch party or really any gathering of fans
I do not understand the cheering for a rival thing. To me, the person does not consider them a rival. I could never cheer for UF, FSU, Falcons, Cowboys, or Mexico, etc.
Unless im put in a Mexico- USA situation that i have to have them do something that could benefit my team
