He's Gulati's guy. Only way he goes is if Gulati goes. Gulati is not going to admit Klinsmann was the wrong choice, because he would be admitting that he himself was wrong. Plus, I think Gulati really buys into what he thinks Klinsmann can do for the program as a whole, and is looking more toward the future than the present.

Yanks need to realize that the ceiling for the US is a CONCACAF powerhouse, nothing more, will never even dream of coming close to the standard set by most South American and European nations.
Don't have the youth coaching available.
Youth soccer at it's highest level is just the rich kids who can afford to play D1/Premier. Isn't like this anywhere in the world that takes the sport seriously.
Don't understand the game well enough (basically a watered down England in this aspect, and they already lag very far behind continental Europe and South America tactically and technically, relying solely on physical attributes will get you nowhere)
Best players are content with playing in a league that is the same standard as most European countrie's 2nd divisions.

Completely unrelated to the Jurgen mess, but I love how so many higher "European" minds equate America's delayed growth in soccer with "they'll never be great, ever."
The potential is there for a huge, athletics-obsessed country that's just still growing in the love for the sport, and the needed changes are progressively coming along.
This post, like others I've seen before on here, is the equivalent of kicking a fan base while they're down by relying on preconceived notions.
Will the USMNT ever win a World Cup or at least compete for one? It's going to take a lot of time, and it may never happen, but I can't see how anyone would just say "never" and leave it at that. "Ever" is a long time.

Most countries in Europe or South America aren't as good as the standard you are talking about us not being able to reach.
If there is a financial incentive it will be figured out, if not it won't. Not being Brazil, Germany, Argentina or whatever, after basically being serious about this sport for 30 years is meaningless.

Being an athletics obsessed country, or a hugely populated country, has nothing to do with how well a nation will do in football. So many more factors go into play, you can't just throw money at the sport and expect progress to magically appear.
Uruguay have .01% of the population of America, but will always be light years ahead, football-wise.
Could you tell me what changes have been made that make you think that progress is actually being made?
