Issue with the Yedlin sale and salary cap

Came across something interesting with his transfer and it brought up some more issues with the MLS and its cap rules.
Which is great to reward the Sounders but they really can't do anything with the money roster wise. They have their DP's and are maxed out at the cap.
I know people say the cap is good for the sustained growth but with the development of American players at home getting better and the increase in transfer fees. Clubs in the future will have this extra cash and won't be able to use it to improve their roster until the cap is raised big time or done away with.

I'm pretty sure the new collective bargaining agreement will substantially raise the salary cap.

Its at 3.1 right now, but do you really see it going above 6 or 7?
I really hope we do get to the point the MLS no longer owns the contracts and clubs can deal directly with other ones.
Baby steps I know but if these aspirations of being a top 5 league by 2022 want to come true these things need to go.

Even if it's that low it's still double the current numbers, and I think we will see the quality of the league take a jump in terms of improvement across all teams.

Yeah, I'd like to see MLS teams regularly challenge for the CCL. I think that a jump like that would get them there

The Mexican league keeps their best players home and gets decent international guys b/c they can pay good money. Lots of its tied to their TV deals, which over the years have been crazy.

I know that. I don't think that MLS teams need to outspend them to do better in the CL

I heard Monterrey's salary budget was 35 mil. There is a reason the MLS struggles to compete.

the ghosts of the NASL hangs over MLS.
i think they have been taking the right approach cap wise. does it need to go up? yes, and the new tv deal should help that greatly. but they have to be mindful of the mistakes of the 70s.
for every packed stadium like seattle, there are the revolution and chivas.

That's true, but the other reality is that most players in the the Mexican league aren't nearly good enough to play in the big leagues. Mexico has always been pretty isolated from the world of European soccer. Another reason is that they grow up dreaming of playing for Chivas or Club America, not Real Madrid.

That's not true. Their best players play in Europe. Guadardo, Marquez, dos santos, vela, chicharito, etc. The biggest differences are that they attract South American talent with higher wages, have a deeper pool, and lose fewer players to the lower leagues in Europe.

Yes it is, just take a look at their national team make up the last 30 years or so. Mexicans going abroad is a new thing the last 7 or 8 years and many of them don't play. Some of their best player performance wise for the national team play at home.
Half their WC squad played at home lots of Mexicans who go to Europe come right back.

No its not.
Hugo Sanchez, Mexico's greatest ever player, was a force for Real Madrid in the 1980s.
At some point most older Mexican National Team players went abroad for at least few seasons. Most of them returned to Mexico simply because they can earn a better salary domestically.
Hell even, fat Cuahtemoc Blanco played for Deportivo in Spain and he's played for pretty much every Mexican club.
