Is Altidore being out a bigger loss than Pepe or Coentrao for Portugal?

Me thinks yes but I'm a big believer in Jozy.

No. Coentrao is extremely important for how their offense works.

I say Altidore, Bradley, and Howard are the only three indispensable players that we have. They bring dynamics that nobody else possesses, especially against these levels of talent.

Pepe, Jozy, Coentrao is how I'd rank them in terms of importance in the XI. However, Portugal basically has one back-up for both of their outside backs, so Conetrao might be more important than I am giving him credit for.

What?

Howard is amazing, but his backup is more then just good.

I would think Dempsey is much harder to replace from our lineup.

I'd switch coentrao and Pepe, but that's just me. Coentrao lends more to the attack than Pepe and Pepe is always a foul away from a red, so they have to plan for that, lol

I think you could replace Dempsey with Mix and not miss too much.

i keep trying to say this to people irl and they just don't get it. either ronaldo will have to play back more ( ) or they will be EXPOSED on the counter ( )

Howard isn't indispensable.

This. Guzan may be the second best player on our squad behind Howard.

Yea basically since i have been old enough to watch and enjoy US soccer GK is the one spot that can be interchanged without missing much.

I would much sooner through Dempsey or even Cameron on that list before Howard.

Dempsey is up there, but he is not e athlete that Jozy is. Nobody on this team is.

I say Howard because he is clearly on a mission, and his experience is invaluable, his leadership is understated.

Coentrao is massive for Portugal. His overlapping play and ability to move forward and cross with his left make Portugal lethal on the left side.

i agree with twellman that altidore being out is the biggest loss of the 3, personally. we have no depth up top whatsoever.

not disagreeing with this by any means. But he can provide much of this from the bench and Guzan has had his fair share of experience and leadership himself.

But Coentrao is a huge lose for Portugal as is Jozy for us.

Who will likely start for Pepe on a related note?

oh i forgot that experience and leadership can only be provided from people on the actual field and that Guzan has 0 of either quality.. my bad.....

Its not like we would go from Timmy to high school back up goalie.. Im not hating on Timmy but Guzan is more than capable to lead this team from the back
