It's a shame we don't have a seasoned goal-scorer off the bench.

He certainly isn't a bigger loss than Pepe and Coentrao.

Bacon can't hold up like Jozy, not is he the physical specimen. However I still think Bacon has lots of skill and speed to give Portugal fits. He will have nearly a week to practice as the lone striker up top and get some chemistry. I think he will turn heads on Sunday

With Aron up top, I'd expect to see a similar formation to the Nigeria game with Dempsey on the left of a 4-2-3-1, but he'll be free to get forward to help Johannsson.

No.
Coentrao is probably the biggest absence of the 3 missing the match.

I could see that happening.
Let him run for 60+. If we still need a goal, bring Wondolowski on.
We can't afford to have an invisible #9 like we did for 70 minutes on Monday.

Based on the complete lack of offense by the US in the first game, it ain't looking good.

This. I think he should either start and go 60 or come in for the last 30. Either way he should get some PT.

It's funny to me that all of a sudden since Altidore got hurt, that he is an indispensable player. I remember reading threads before the world cup with many posters saying that he was garbage. I'm new to this but I just find it ironic how great he has become since his injury. Whats wrong with these other forwards on the team? Thought they were under the radar stars ready to explode on the scene. So good that they had surpassed Dempsey.
not knowing the intricacies of the game but even I thought it was crazy to just carry 4 forwards. It seems to be the most important position and the glamor position where the stars shine the most.

Yes, not necessarily because of his talent but because we have no one else that can do what he does.
