There’s so many choices but I am not sure. My friends root for Liverpool because of the Fenway connection. What EPL team should I root for?

I posted this same thread during the WC. Didn't get a real answer best thing to do is watch and pick a team. That's my plan anyway.

To be fair, there really is no cut and dry answer.

My only recommendation would pick a team who perennially finishes 8th or better. Only because it will help keep you interested at first.

The perfect club for someone looking to get into the sport is Gateshead and it isn’t close.

That Wolves v Everton game was fun yesterday. If someone wants to watch the Premier League this year for the first time and don’t want one of the big 6 teams to follow, Wolves would be a good choice.

Just watch games and see who you latch onto.

Of the big clubs, I support United because my best friend who got me into it grew up watching the Class of ‘92. Supporting a big club means you can usually watch them and they’re always interesting.

I also have taken to Fulham because of their “Fulhamerica” moniker for having American players - like McBride and Dempsey. I’ll always cheer for a club with Yanks.

Don’t worry about jumping on a bandwagon and people calling you out for it. If it’s an EPL team you want to follow, pick one of top 6 clubs. Doesn’t mean you can’t follow some lower table clubs as well, until you settle somewhere. At least with a top club you’ll get UCL or Europa matches as well.

Start watching matches, look for players or a style you like.

Read a little about the clubs, now. Read a little about the clubs' history, and how their supporters act/support their club/what others think of them.

I watched English first division football for over ten years before I settled on Fulham when first Eddie Lewis went there, THEN Brian McBride after they were promoted to the Premier League in 2002. THEN they signed Carlos Bocanegra, Eddie Johnson and Carlos Bocanegra and I was hooked.

Add to it that great, mostly older, ground and the reputation of FFC as a "family club" and what was there, FOR ME, not to like. Following the Fulham is a roller coaster, much more so than all this advice to be a "glory hunter" choosing the top six. Feh.

Fulham's big rivals are all in West London: QPR, Chelsea (who's ground is in Fulham) and Brentford, followed by Derby (pitch invasion in 1983 at the Baseball Ground cost FFC promotion) and Gillingham (they caused some aggro that resulted in the death of a very popular Fulham supporter.)

But, hey, that's just me, and I made a conscious decision based on my support for the USMNT and Fulham being the first club to take a real shot with Yanks.

Prior to 2002, I watched and enjoyed United, as well as Arsenal. Arsenal, too, played in a great old and character-filled ground until they built the Emirates at Ashton Gate.

American owned
Not a big six club
Play attractive football
Young talent
Classic venue
Owners will spend
Cool kit
You haven’t missed out on any history to speak of.
8/11 starters are new to the team, so old fans are learning the team as you do.
It’s feasible they get promoted to the Championship.

Define history.

Recent history Fulham were easily the best team, playing the most attractive football in the second-tier over the last two years since Slavisa Jokanovic's arrival in late 2015.

Roy Hodgson came to Fulham in 2007 and they barely beat relegation in the "Great Escape" 2008-2009 he took a journeyman club (lots of solid players) to seventh in the Premier League and a berth in the 2009-2010 Europa League, and not the easy way, but had to "play-in" including summer trips to Ankar Perm and others.

You NEED to learn about the Europa League campaign which saw Fulham dispatch SV Hamburger AND a 4-1 defeat of Juventus at Craven Cottage. They lost in the Europa League final to Atletico Madrid, and it took Atleti until the 110th minute to do it, needing Diego Forlan to score to see us off. Heartbreaking but OH SO PROUD.
