I found myself cheering for Iran late in yesterday's game. Who am I?

Just like the Zoolander scene. Who am I? We are at war with them, yet that takeaway of their goal in extra time was heartbreaking to watch.

I mean frick Iran but I’m not stupid enough to conflate their freaking soccer team with their government lol.
They’re very much the scrappy underdog and I kind of hope they’ve done enough to get through. Bad luck not taking the game last night.

I pulled for Egypt because it would have kept Belgium out our Round of 16 bracket.

Why is everyone worried about Belgium, they aren't that good.

I mean they’re definitely better than Egypt. And better than us on paper.
It’s a winnable game but it’s not a great reward in the round of 16 for winning the group.

No. We are not. We are at war with their tyrannical extremist Islamic government that the vast majority of Iranians want nothing to do with. Don't conflate the two.

Except that their team is a bunch of queers trying to disparage the US World Cup. frick them, couldn't have been happier to see them get a game winning goal wiped out.

Ya Belgium is beatable but it's still a bad matchup that I thought we'd avoid.

Because they just beat our arse 3 months ago without a few of their best players.

Yeah but we also had two of our back line missing. Richards is quite literally that important and McKenzie is such a laughable step down.
Also Weah was at RB instead of Dest and the difference there is night and day too.

No effing clue what those two were doing against Turkey. Painful to watch.

Dest, Adams, Richards were also not playing and thus defensively we were a completely different team and outmached. But the point still stands, that's not the roster you want to face compared to Egypt.

The Boat is heartless.

Gonna come down to Algeria, it seems.

I feel for the Iranian team when I think about how they are getting punished for the actions of a government they really have nothing to do with.
And then I see them disparage our country and think about what would happen if our players said such things at a World Cup in Iran…. my sympathy for them disappears very quickly

They are getting fricked though. International travel is a different beast. A lot of their support staff can’t accompany them.
Not that this is entirely our fault. A lot of it is Iran’s.
