No. I think they just eased their citizenship laws to import some better players.

Is that why they have a good bit of black guys on the team?

Genuine question. Can't say I'm familiar with Qatar's population make-up.

They have legit paid players to switch nationality and have made exceptions for granting nationality for such players

Mostly Africans, Brazilans and some Eastern European on the team

The actual population of the country. A very small % is Qatari Arab, and they don’t even work. They own all the business or live of the money the government gives them from their natural gas and oil. The white collar work force is mainly ex pats from western countries. The blue collar basically slave labor comes from poor Arab countries, the sub continent or south east Asia.

On my six month “deployment” there i played on our base soccer team in a league with the Qatar military.

The top general had a hand picked team. Not one was Arab. The goal keeper was some 6’5 Serb. They all rolled up to their games and practice in $80k+ cars.

They tried to recruit a guy off our team. The wages they offered would have been about $140k a year and then free place to live and a car.

It’s disgusting how rich and wasteful this country of backwards thinking goat frickers is.

I can’t wait for the day their shite dries up

Also let’s not forget they just started a 100% tax on booze or anything else they deem bad for you.

Japan is awesome - many there dont want to claim Osaka as a Japanese tennis phenom bc:

1. Shes only 50% Japanese
2. her parents are obnoxious / classless
3. she never really lived there

Better to lose with dignity intact than to "win" the way Qatar has.

Japan is not racist - great country with a very unique sports culture. Now that I'm in Portland I hope to visit far more often.

The older generations can be bad, but younger folks are more open-minded. Japan is no more racist than alot of countries.

That’s a pretty fair assessment

It’s funny how people like Winston praise Japan even though tons of them would hate his guts bc he’s white.

A society that was based on hatred of all outsiders

Some of it was due to the empire and some being an island culture fighting off invaders

Japan is extremely xenophobic, to the point they can't integrate people of Japanese heritage who returned to the country from the Japanese diaspora. There is also widespread discrimination against people of Korean, Chinese, and other Southeast Asian backgrounds. If that isn't racism (or more specifically, bigotry), then I don't know what is.

A lot of it is due to just being insular as well, which the island culture alludes to. I think you'll see more conversations about race in places like South Asia and Southeast Asia, as those places are extremely racist.
