And slow...and the B-liga's best striker of the 1st half of the season (Fullkrug) can barely get off the bench for a squad that can't score goals and hasn't had a true #9 since Klose.

Hansi pulled the right strings at Bayern, but not getting enough time with the squad thanks to Jogi hanging around too long doomed this WC. Congrats to Japan & Spain, well deserved.

So looks like that Japan ball was definitely out of bounds, how does that not get called with VAR?

The German Saints/Rams moment here

They seem to be having trouble letting go of an older generation of world class players while working in a solid group of (eventually world class) younger players.

That’s just a complicated way of saying they aren’t that good right now. World Cup is only every 4 years so to win you really have to have a little luck in the timing between injuries and your players peaking at the right time. Lot of countries don’t seem to be peaking right now.

Spheres don't work like that

If there's not green grass separating the whole of the ball and the whole of the line it remains in. 100% correctly called.

No. The entirety of the ball has to be across the line, which was clearly not the case.

Much like most rational fans think, the Saints made plenty of key self-inflicted errors before the no-call just as Germany did in the 3 group matches.

Doesn’t discredit the egregious of the No-call PI, which this situation pales in comparison.

Umm yes they are.

No they are not. France had the easiest group in the tourney by far. And just so happens they luck up and get the worst team left in the tourney in the group of 16.
Tell me Benzema/Nkunku/Kante/Pogba are there and then it would be a different story.

Eta:I forgot Australia advanced. They would be the worst.

also admit I don’t follow Germany that much so I may be completely off base.

You are. Germany was the pick of some of the best soccer cappers in the world like me. They are a very good team who's best/2nd best player (Sane) got injured and missed the first game and didnt quite look like himself when he came back. They created plenty of chances and pretty much controlled all 3 matches but just got upset in 1. It happens.

I was joking about the Saints thing btw
Germany don’t deserve a damn thing with the way they played this WC anyway they would lose to Morocco or Croatia

Understand the situation with the sphere but still very close

Trying to make a determination on a call like that based on an arbitrary still frame is silly. Either way Germany is out and that's all that matters.

Really discounting Gnabry, Kimmich, and Musiala here

We will always have that brief moment of bliss where it looked like Costa Rica might top the group with a -5 goal differential. That would have been amazing

They’ve truly mastered the art of shithouse goals. Just ran out of gas and Germany’s talent finally wore them down.

Musiala and Sane are the 2 best players on Bayern and the German national team. (Sorry Mane fans ) If you watch him at Bayern his talent just jumps off the screen.

What?

They really didn't. The Spain game was even, and the Japanese game was the classic case of being unable to unlock a well-organized low-block. Their major problem is that they haven't figured out a way of integrating Thomas Muller with Sane, Gnabry, and others. They also lack a finisher, which they had previously at more successful tournaments.

FIFA has the access to the perfect frame and didn’t disagree, and no “arbitrary” frames that disagree with the above image have been circulated, it’s a safe bet to say it was called correctly

Add to that the technology chip in the ball that supposedly assists with decisions like this one.

Pair the technology in the ball with the Hawk Eye camera system (the one used at all tennis majors) and I daresay the referee crew got this decision correct.
