They get worse every year
not much young promising talent coming through and their domestic league is getting worse. They probably won't make it out the group in 2018.

They should have more talent, yes, but I don't think they are that bad. They were awesome in 2008 when they let Arshavin run the attack. They should just free Dzagoev to do his thing.

It's funny because Russia has pumped a ton of oil...money into the Russian League and Federation.
I'm just basing this conjecture on what I observed in Ukraine, but it might have merit in Russia as well. Most of Ukraine's best players only come from major metropolitan areas (Kyiv and the industrial East), despite football being the most widely played sport by a wide margin (unless we consider ghetto street workouts as a discipline). There were college aged kids in my village who could walk-on to some American college teams. These kids from birth, aren't going to make it into a sports academy simply because nobody scouts the countryside for unearthed talent.
