Freddy is still alive drilling Fk's in the Finnish fourth division for his teams reserves for $2,000 a month.

I mean 2k a month is shite money...but imagine for a second someone was paying you 2k a month to play a game, instead of what you're doing now.

I'm drunk so that's what I thought about

Err, to be fair. He's just coming back from injury. He was playing for the first team less than 3-4 weeks ago.

His journey amazes me. He came to mls at like 15 and 2 years after that couldn't find minutes anywhere.

If we had Jurgen back then, Adu WOULD be the next Pele.

Playing in the MLS at 14 ruined the kid

Should have been at an academy in Europe a lot of the big clubs where after him.

It really is a "what if" for the ages.

I think he'd be a limited player no matter what path he had followed.

Who knows though.

He played a pretty big part in us getting to the 2011 Gold Cup final IIRC

That's what pisses me off the most, though.

The kid has natural talent, probably the most of anyone that has come through the US System. It's just that it was wasted due to his family needing money and the MLS trying to get much-needed attention by trotting out a dog and pony show.

he never got big/strong enough to hold his own during a season in the mid field and he never got fast enough to be a winger

he's a player without a position. just shite luck. pure genetics

he can be masked for short periods but will always be exposed. happens all the time with potential superstars in soccer

That's what youth academies are for.

Being 5'8 doesn't ostracize you from soccer.

The MLS chewed him up and spit him out

at 14 no way he should have been playing vs grown arse men.

Many of who were trying to make a name for themselves to make it to Europe.
