Every year on FIFA there's a transfer that happens every manager mode
Posted on 9/23/14 at 10:43 am to hendersonshands
Suarez to Bayern was the one I always saw on 14, followed by Thiago Silva to Man United and Chicharito to Inter.
Posted on 9/23/14 at 10:49 am to WarSlamEagle
Which reminds me, Suarez is apparently suspended until Oct on Manager Mode

Btw, we might be getting a board colour change.

It was hard to find "first team quality" players after a few seasons with clubs like Roma and Atletico. You would get like Messi, Ronaldo and a few others you would not have a single chance at getting.
Never really had that problem. But then again, I started off in low leagues to try and work my way up. Managed several years in Norway with no one asking me if I wanted a job. So I applied for the job at Grasshopper and got it. Decided to start a new manager career in Austria and took Sturm Gratz to back-to-back UCL titles but still couldn't get manager offers or convince many players to come to my team. Bit the bullet and applied for a Ligue 1 position with a newly promoted team in January but got bored and never finished out my 1st full season there.
I still want to get 15 though.

I think the problem people are referring to is that your "first team quality" players were locked to the original star rating of your team. For example, I played all the way to 2020 with CA Bastia, had a mix of scouted and real players all above 80, and my "first team quality" players were still in the 50s and 60s (maybe 1 or 2 70s).

I'm going to write a long-winded review and possibly a FUT guide after I've played a bit. I got in the Top 100 on Xbox and PC for a while on FUT squad rating and was in the first division on both. I like the game, but it's completely different from 14 in my opinion.
Also, feel free to add me on Origin if you want to play at all. NotZachari is my tag.

I'd be happy to do the same with Career Mode (especially scouting). That's my favorite part of the game and I've been pretty successful playing it...

I'm already getting fed up with Online play... Somehow it seems like the AI got worse from 14 to 15, although it felt better in the demo.
Still impossible to play a possession style because of bad passes and insane tackles

You have to be very careful in this game about being predictable. For example, I've been playing with Manchester United on Online Seasons, and I've been demolished by Real Madrid (the only team I'm allowed to play, apparently). I'm talking going 0-1-5 after playing over 1000 hours on two PC accounts last season as well as a ton on Xbox/Xbox One. I was furious, and I angrily told my girlfriend that I hated the game this year.
The problem wasn't the game. It was me. Once I went to FUT, I didn't have the players that I was using or facing in Online Seasons. This year, every player can't ping the ball around or put perfect lob passes on a dime. You can't play your CBs up the field because they have pace. This year you have to play intelligent, dynamic football. This sounds very cliché, and I know every year someone is saying this. I truly believe that this year, though.
What you have to start doing is playing with a team that suits your style and actually committing to playing that style. What that means is making the right adjustments. Also, you can't play predictable or you'll be thrashed. I was lucky enough to get Lacazette, Dante, and Caceres for FUT. Using that, I put some decent players in position to just give me a team to play with. I started well, but then once I was facing people of equal skill, I was getting thrashed. The problem was that I was playing predictable and trying to force a style to work without adjusting. I wasn't playing the game as it is supposed to be played. I was playing it like I played 14, which allowed for extreme "cheesing" and predictable play. Play to their strengths. Don't force a style on it.
The biggest issue I've seen is people using pacey, decent CBs too far up the field. I tend not to do this, but with Rojo and Shaw back there, I got a little too brave. I was punished quickly. You absolutely can not do that this year without risking being demolished. Using the new options this year, I tell my back line to stay back on the attack no matter what and leave them alone for the most part. You need to keep your back line in position and trace back with the midfielders. Learn to use LT (or L2) to contain without just holding A. Defending is loads better, and if you defend correctly, it's downright insanely hard to score.
Your problem is a result of that. The defending has been amped up so much that passes get cut out a lot. I turned off pass assist, and I started playing the ball into space. In FUT, I'm 10-2-5 after some adjustments. Dribbling and passing are wonderful this year, but you have to be careful about your passes. You have all the tools to counter the awesome new defending. Don't sprint and pass. Knock on the ball to create space. Also, don't forget to pass for possession if that's your style, and do not pass to create chances constantly. That leads to low possession for you and kills your style.
I'm going to work on a basic FUT tutorial to get out soon so you guys can get better early. For now, though, remember to use futhead to find players, and unless you're using cash, stay away from buying packs. I got some great players from packs using FIFA Points, but if you aren't spending real money, don't waste your money on packs. They have a very low yield. I quit buying packs last year and traded (without autobuyers and coin buying) up to around 5 million coins.

Day 2 Notes:
-The 4-1-2-1-2 I loved to play is destroyed. Like Dij said, you HAVE TO use your CBs and as fast as I like to play in that formation, you can't afford to have the CBs up.
-The chants are fricking awesome. Although it is kinda weird hearing the "sheikh mansour went to spain" chant when I'm in manager mode.
-The GKs are nowhere near as stout as they were in the demo. They're still good, but they don't catch every damn shot. Joe Hart makes great saves AND is still solid to let one easy one through a game. So realistic.
-You will score some absolutely insane goals and you will miss some ridiculously easy shots. I love it.
-I haven't figured out what trait it is that makes them overpowered yet, but Pogba, Navas and Fernando are insanely good. For the first time in my life I feel like a cheeser for playing with Citeh.
-I haven't figured out what trait it is that makes him suck, but Yaya gets dispossessed way too easily. Balotelli owned him a game I played last night.
-I've seen more cards this year. I like it for the most part EXCEPT in the box. Yes I'm getting PKs but I've had like 4 reds committed against me in the box in 8 or so games. Kinda ridiculous. I'm sure they'll patch it though.
ETA:
I'm playing on PC and have seen some pretty serious complaints on OpSports but I haven't run into any of them. My ONLY complaint so far has been that when I alt+tab to check Chrome the game wouldn't go back to fullscreen. Today I figured out that alt+enter fixes that.
ERMUGAWD my GK is progressing!!!

I'm pretty sad about the 4-1-2-1-2 being so hard to play, but it's always one of the most used formations. There's probably some way to play it well. I'm toying with it in FUT with some Solo Seasons matchups while they're easy.

Ain't this shite the truth? Angel Di Maria is the king of insane shots. I've already curled in some beauties with him. On the EA Access trial on Xbox One, I crushed one with him from 45 yards that dipped into the top right corner. The guy I was playing was like "Holy shite, I'm not even mad. You should save that one." I've also missed some ridiculous easy shots with players who I didn't expect to (I'm looking at you, Lacazette).
One of the best additions to the game has to be the huge variety of shots and dribbling added. I've pulled off some amazing things with flicks of the foot. The new body physics make the game so much more realistic and fun. I had a play where I held up with Welbeck waiting for a pass that I put into space, and when it passed me, I spun off the defender and went in open to score. The biggest thing I've noticed, though, is that players take correct shots based on the situation. Last year nothing was more infuriating than seeing a player try to head a waist high ball (either missing or barely putting anything on the ball) with an open net or watching a player stumble on a quick shot because he was too close. In the first case, I had a ball bounce in the box with a little space, and Welbeck went across it quickly with the foot to smash it in. The improvement second was something I noticed in the demo. I put a light knock on the ball to create space with Aguero in front of goal, and I shot with him a little over the ball expecting him to trip or barely touch the ball. Instead, he slowed a bit, adjusted his body quickly, and put a quick scooped shot in the net. When people say that nothing's changed, I can tell they're not seeing those little things.

I've noticed this, too. I got a red card and was up against a PK with Dante because an opposing player ran over him.

I liked your notes so I'm going to copy you in a more verbose way that won't end up being updated or anything. I figured I'd put some of my own early impressions out there and give some tips that some people may not know.
WARNING - TL;DR: This is going to be long so feel free to avoid the shite out of it. If you want some tips or to read some early opinions on it, read on.
I know it's early, but I really think this may be one of the best FIFA games I've played (using the next-gen versions: PC, Xbox One, PS4). I haven't played it on the Xbox 360 or PS3 this year, but after playing it on PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One last year, I can see huge improvements.
Early Impressions:
- Shooting is realistic for better or worse. If you're off-balance or you're shooting with a player with less than ideal shooting while sprinting, you're going to loft it into the crowds. If you don't get the ball a little bit ahead of you and you put too much power on the ball, you're going to hit an inaccurate ball. Shooting is the biggest adjustment I'm having to make this year. I went from crushing shots from outside of the box and curling shots from 35+ with ease to hitting a sitter into the crowd due to bad decision making on the shot. I feel like Wondo a lot of the time. All of that aside, I love shooting this year. It's very diverse, and you can score a lot of goals you couldn't score before. Little scooped shots or shots where you may not be in perfect position for are viable in the right situations. Dipping a solid hit over the keeper and curling one top corner over a diving keeper are two things that I always get excited over in FIFA. This year, they're more realistic, and therefore, they're easier to learn to do consistently and infinitely more rewarding. Seriously, practice curling in a shot off-center from 30-35 yards out and tell me it's not awesome when they fall. Last year, I got so good at them with Fredy Guarin that I would go to that when I needed a quick goal almost every time. This year, they fly more consistently so I've already been draining them with Fredy and Di Maria.
- The improved body physics have lead to such a diverse set of viable play styles, it's retarded. I've used route one, possession, hold up play, high-tempo, and a ton of other play styles and techniques that I didn't use half of in over 1000 hours of playtime last year. I used some of them extremely well last year, especially playing a 4-1-2-1-2 controlling possession or counter-attacking in the 4-3-3, but a lot of them weren't viable without really committing before the game. I've switched up play styles and formations after a big group of subs and completely changed the game. So much god damn fun.
- Keepers aren't as god-like as they were in the demo, but they're miles better than any other FIFA. Spamming crosses into the box, especially ones that cross near the keeper, is not viable unless someone is defending terribly. Keepers attack the ball coming across and do their best to get a hand on it. If they can't get a good punch on it, they slap it over the bar or out of play. If they see someone coming in hard for a ball in front of them, they attack it in the air and dive to grab it over the person. I've also noticed balls that would have gone in in previous games be saved due to awareness and the addition of "quick" saves. I can't tell you how many times I've seen goals come on shots goalside that the keeper, who is literally standing right there, should have stopped with a point blank save over the years. This year, I've seen countless of the same goals get saved because the keeper throws a quick arm out at it or slaps it away using quick reflexes. That alone is worth them touting the new "Keeper Engine".
- Defending is hard as hell, but once you learn, you learn to love it. The pace in this game reminds me of 13, but it doesn't suffer the pacewhore, rage-inducing drawbacks of 13 because defending is done right. Players perform in the way that they should. Pacey attackers burn defenders who are playing with too much overlap, sprint at players, or stab at the ball too much.
- One issue I have is that defending is sometimes erratic in the level of physicality. Playing against Real Madrid, I find that they are impossible to dispossess and can wreck me without consequence. They need to nerf them a little or make tackling a tiny bit more consistent. It's not terrible if you play the game right, but it's annoying when everyone in the attacking third is impossible to dispossess. Obviously, they're an insanely stacked team, but I've played as United 6 times in Online Seasons and played Real Madrid every time. I know United is stacked at the front, but they're not as sound in the back as teams like Real Madrid, Bayern, and Barcelona. If I'm going to be forced to play them, at least give me a chance. That's just me whining, though.

Part 2: Tips and shite
PK Saving Tip:
For anyone having issues with PKs, I'll give up my secret to blocking the majority of PKs I face (even though one of you may wreck me later because of it). Every player you face in a PK as keeper is trying to "fake you out". They all want to go the opposite way of what you're going to do so I like to pull the reverse Tim Krul on them. I pick a direction (usually right) and keep pushing my keeper to the edge in that direction and back to the center. Because I'm showing right, they think I'm going to dive left and so to try to trick me, they go right (or left if you shadowed left beforehand) and I dive in the direction I chose. You get burned on some shots in the middle, but those are usually predictable based on their body before the kick. The only thing you have to worry about is the occasionally shot barely off center, which is the hardest PK to block in the game, even if you do pick the correct direction to dive. It doesn't always work, but I find myself winning most shootouts and blocking over 60% of the PKs I'm up against.
Defending a one-on-one tip:
One of the biggest issues with the more demanding defending is some pretty nasty one-on-one situations. I've noticed that keepers don't block as many this year when placed well from decent range, and instead, players miss more shots. The issue is how to get them to put a shot on goal that is less threatening. My technique is to play with the keeper's "charge" abilities using the Y button. Holding Y causes them to charge, but not many people know that double-tapping the Y button sends them back between the sticks while charging. A lot of times when the keeper charges, they'll immediately go to the Chip Shot out of instinct, and obviously, charging and being beat by a chipped shot is basically an automatic goal. To minimize being burned in one-on-one situations, I try to make them think I'm charging to force the chip, which is easily saved when not out of position. What I like to do on a one-on-one is to charge early and get the keeper coming out while the attacker is a bit further away. After I get about 60-100% to the top of the box (depending on how much time you have), I quickly double-tap the Y button to send the keeper back into goal. A lot of times the player will slow down and go for the chip shot, but your defender, who is already making his way back into goal, gets to the ball for an easy save or, in cases where you waited a little too long to send him back, a quick punch over the bar. It takes a good bit of trial and error so I recommend you try it in practice mode or Kick-Off, but it really has saved me in a ton of situations.
One of my biggest pieces of advice are to learn how to play the game as it's really played to DO THE SKILL GAMES. These seem like obvious "tips", but they're really overlooked things. When I was younger, I had a ton of time so I got good at playing FIFA in my own way. As my free time decreased, I found the past few years that I was sucking more and more. Last year, I was having trouble in Division 5 for the first month or two. I was super deep into FUT and had a sick team, but I was still losing consistently in the 4th and 5th Divisions. I decided to learn to play correctly, and I bootlegged some of those "guides" people sell on how to play the game and FUT. I realized how shitty I'd been playing, and I started looking at the game more from a football standpoint. I also spent time doing all of the skill games and trying to get Legendary standings on them. Finally, I took all of that and played Kick Off on Legendary difficulty with most of the assistance turned down or off. After that, I was easily winning matches in Division 1, and the games was WAY more fun than before. It doesn't take as much time as it seems. It really goes with playing the game.
Also, if you play FUT, don't forget to log into the web app once a day for a gift. I've got gold packs and several coin bonuses, including packs of 2,500 and 5,000 coins. Today, I got 2,500.

I put a light knock on the ball to create space with Aguero in front of goal, and I shot with him a little over the ball expecting him to trip or barely touch the ball. Instead, he slowed a bit, adjusted his body quickly, and put a quick scooped shot in the net.
What is the point of using the knock on, or first touch? That's with the left joystick right? How do you take a good touch with your back to a man as a hold up guy and not get it immediately stripped? I struggle with that.
What are your tips for defending? I just try to jockey and not let them pass me, with a slide tackle thrown in when I think the timing is right. If need be I'll call a second defender, but that's about all I do. Seems pretty basic and I feel like I could be doing more/better. You sound like you know a lot about this game so I'll probably be asking you a lot more questions. This is the first FIFA that I've bought since 10 or 11.
