Seriously, I'm super glad they fixed the loaned player progression...and I'm even more happy that they fixed goalie progression. In 14 I could have a goalie carry an 8.0+ rating for 3 seasons and only progress 1, if any.

Scouting appears 'tougher'. In 14 I would hire all 5* scouts and only sign guys with a low end of 70+ and a high end 90+. I haven't found any and I have 2 scouts with 1 report and 1 with 3.

Great stuff, bookmarked.

Any other tips for a complete FUT noob? Formations to use, trading secrets, team building etc? Played a lot of FIFA years ago but just 1v1 with friends. First time getting FIFA in years and first time getting into UT ever.

My only legit gameplay complaint outside of the Toure stuff is crossing. It was undeniably too easy in 13 and 14 but I just can't complete one this year. I'm playing manager mode with City. I should at least be able to bang in a few from the outside.

What is the point of using the knock on, or first touch? That's with the left joystick right? How do you take a good touch with your back to a man as a hold up guy and not get it immediately stripped? I struggle with that.

What are your tips for defending? I just try to jockey and not let them pass me, with a slide tackle thrown in when I think the timing is right. If need be I'll call a second defender, but that's about all I do. Seems pretty basic and I feel like I could be doing more/better. You sound like you know a lot about this game so I'll probably be asking you a lot more questions. This is the first FIFA that I've bought since 10 or 11.

The left stick can be used for it, but it's very limited. This year it's better, but if you know how to do it manipulating the"Big Touch" mechanic, you can really get some control on it. Controlling your touches and knock ons are done with the right stick while holding the RT (or R2). They call them "Big Touches" because they get dramatically farther depending on how many times you rapidly press the right stick in the direction of your choice. If you use it right, though, you can give yourself a really big advantage. For example, I slow down (using LT or L2) and stop and start (quick stops using LB or LT+LB for a quicker stop) a lot when dribbling and "skilling". I use Face Up Dribbling a lot holding RT+LT (R1+L1) which helps, also. The touches I use RT for are from a standstill or in a dead sprint to create space. Using LB (or L1), you can stop the ball quickly. From that position holding LB, you can press a direction on the left stick while holding RT (for sprint) for a small touch in a direction. My favorite move currently uses this. I push the ball diagonally out in front of me left or right and then spin back to the opposite direction. This also works with a bigger touch using Right Stick, but it's harder to get off well. When you're in a foot race, pushing the ball out in front of you with the right stick allows your player to run faster to create space. Another good use when in a flat out sprint is for slight direction changes to catch a defender flat footed. For example, if I'm bombing down the right side with a defender all over me, I like to give it a push out in front of me at a slight angle right and then on my next touch give it a strong push out in front at a slightly more intense angle. Nothing insane on either push, but the defender sprinting with you will have too much momentum going right after the first touch and get lost when you put the second touch back inside. It's all about playing their momentum with those types of touches. It takes a lot of trial and error.

As for defending, it really is tough this year. First and foremost, I use the new "Instructions" to force my defenders to stay back on the attack. I'd rather keep a defender who doesn't have that great of a shot back anyway. Unless it's someone like Leighton Baines with a killer longshot, Marcelo, or David Alaba, I keep them set at the back. Other than that, it's really all positioning. I play off the ball and give space a lot of times to try to force them to beat me instead of beating myself. I use jockey and try to either push them towards the sideline or towards the goal line (for pacier wingers), especially now that crosses aren't as deadly. If I can't force them to the lines, I step back a bit and try to get them to come directly at me. Jockeying is great, but this year they call fouls a bit easy. If I can, I try to get directly in front of them to tackle using the B button. I absolutely abuse the shirt pull using the B button when I'm a little behind someone. If you're smart and don't hold it, you can "pulse" shirt pulls and really destroy a speed advantage. If it's an emergency, I'll slide tackle but not very often. I have pretty good instincts on when to use it so I don't regret it often, but a lot of people use it terrible so I try to advise against using it too much. I taught my friend how to play, and I was a drill sergeant about things like slide tackles and lobbed through balls. I didn't even tell him it was possible to use those until later when he was decent at defending.

Basically, my defending techniques are all based on forcing them to make the wrong move to make using the basic tackles. This year, the chance of being nutmegged is much higher though. Last year, I could get a few off, including one really dirty skill combo with 5* dribblers where I'd push it out a little from a standstill and then pull it back through their legs when they turned. This year, I nutmeg people a good bit, and I get nutmegged even more. That means that tackles are much harder to make, and the higher rate of fouls makes defending even harder. The best way to handle this is to make sure your positioning is sound. Always try to defend with midfielders tracking back, and use bodies and positioning as defending tactics. A big one is not always playing on the ball. Cover runs you see developing off the ball, and always try to make sure your CBs are central on breakaways. When a team is on the counter and pushing down the wing, I make sure to grab a CB off the ball and force him central to cover crosses and quick runs in. That's where a lot of goals come from. The CBs are out of position a little bit and a midfielder sneaks in while you're focused on the wing and ends up scoring. You just have to focus on being in position. One of the things that saves my arse is just putting a body between the shot and the goal. If I see someone about to shoot, I tend to commit to blocking the shot instead of trying to tackle them before they get it off. This also helps with not being thrashed with fake shots and crosses. All of this is really minor stuff and some of it is super obvious, but it's extremely useful. When you do these things, the tackle using the B button will end up being more than suitable in most situations. It's really hard to show someone what I mean without playing them.

It's all good, though. I got back into FIFA hardcore last year after years of casual play and being smashed by a friend repeatedly. I understand how it is to have the little things make you second guess what the shite you're doing. I'd defend great all game and then pull an LB too far up without recognizing them switch to the counter late and be left wondering what happened. Feel free to ask as many things as you want. Not all of the answers will be novels, but the things you asked are too deep for quick answers this time, haha.

Defending seems pretty hard. I'm scoring a lot of goals each game but giving up a lot too.

Man, you are some miracle worker....

Since I play possession, I really have to play possession, in previous versions I could play possession but be fast paced. That is what was killing me, I was trying to do that, and would get killed going the other way.

Slowing it down, and just knocking the ball around got me my first win where I didn't feel outplayed and lucky. I made him make the mistakes (although I gave up a really silly goal at the end, it still ended 3-1)

Pool's front 3 (Studge, Balo and Sterling are LETHAL if the other guy gives it away cheaply)

I'll definitely write a decent starter guide to FUT tonight or tomorrow. It's my favorite mode, and I've been playing since it came out in '09.

It's really tough. You have to work angles a lot more. Corners are insanely tough. It's still the same in terms of putting the ball in and finishing, but the big guys at the back are insanely hard to beat this year. I wish they'd have had this shite last year when I was losing on matches due to headers being super OP. I had Kompany, Vidic, and Thiago Silva (off the bench) in FUT, and I was watching David Silva and Samir Nasri smash in headers over them from distance. So annoying.

Trust me, I got wrecked quite a few times already between the EA Access trial and getting the game unlocked early yesterday. I was a Division 1 player in FIFA14, but I had a string of games where I hated it and wanted to rage. Now, I'm sitting at about 27-6-11 online across all modes so obviously it's a bit more fun. It's really all about playing smart and not playing your style in a way that it isn't supposed to be played. This year is all about making sure you don't blow the game. I've drawn a match I was up 4-0 after the half, and I've come back and won a match 5-3 that I was down 0-3 at the half. Both were results of playing stupid or not adjusting to blatantly obvious changes.

As for your team of choice, I really enjoy playing with Pool because I love playing with Sterling. I got him on loan for FUT, and I think I'm going to be buying his card. Let me know how it goes for you over time, though.

Would be much appreciated.

Should I play some quick matches and what not to get use to 15 and Fifa in general since I haven't played in a while so I dont get absolutely blasted jumping right into FUT?

Absolutely. Also, get used to using the web app on the official FIFA site ( FIFA Web App). Bookmark that one and make sure not to sign in anywhere else. That's how they hack and gut your accounts. Play a few to get used to it. Your team is going to suck arse at first on FUT. I got 11 loyalty packs so I had a little to work with. Without that, you'll be awful. The first Solo Seasons are pretty easy, though. Just choose the first one and get used to your team. Nationality and League add chemistry. Managers add +1 to Nationality or League to everyone if it applied. Having 100 chemistry is important, and it makes your players play much better due to Chemistry Styles. A decent team playing at 100 chemistry will beat a better team playing at 40 chemistry almost every time with equal player skill.

If you want to spend real world dough on FIFA Points, feel free to buy packs. Otherwise, I'd steer clear of them and learn to make coins through trading. Learn the prices of people, buy low, and sell higher. On Tuesday and Wednesday, people sell low to get coins for packs for the TOTW cards released Wednesday at 6PM UK Time (1PM EST/12PM CST). Buy then and resell on weekends. In-form cards (Team of the Week(TOTW), Team of the Season(TOTS), Team of the Year (TOTY)) are available for one week only, and they're released based on the best performers of the week. They're better versions of that player's normal card, and they're worth a good amount of coins. If a player gets multiple TOTW releases throughout the year, each one will be better than the previous. For example, I got stupid lucky and packed a third in-form Eden Hazard card last year. It was worth around 2 million coins when I got it.

Lastly, be careful to watch for busts. It's the initial boom of FUT so everyone's selling at high prices. They'll fall. When Team of the Year (December, I think) comes out, they'll plummet. Last year, I put 300,000 coins into the market on cards at their lowest prices. When they rose again week or two later, I sold it all for around 1.2 million coins (No joke). It takes time to get good, but if you trade (legit, not using bots) well, you can literally have any player you want. I had a team full of TOTS, IFs, and highly rated gold players with an overall rating of like 88.

I'll go more in-depth later. I'm about to do some trading and mess with the market myself for a bit.

So I just noticed in Matchmaking settings (I don't think it was there in previous years, if it was I'm gonna be pissed):

They have a Club Type setting where you can set it to only play Club vs. Club or International vs. International...

No more of those ridiculous LFC vs. Brazil matches for me!

Is there a Dashboard or anything in the game for the marketplace, or can it only be access from that Web App?

Legendary CPU difficulty is once again ridiculous. Going to have to drop down to World Class until I get the hang of everything. Defending is a lot tougher than it was on 14, but it's great when you switch to an off-ball defender and intercept a pass.

I like how the game is looser with movement and dribbling on the PS4 compared to the PS3, feels like there is some realistic weight to the players and their touches.

Mostly played exhibitions against my youngest brother and the CPU tonight. Being the presentation sucker I am, I really like the EPL graphics packages and all the replays. The little things like no-cutaways on throw-ins and corners are also appreciated, in addition to the crowd noise/shake and new celebration style...and, of course, the all-around visual boosts from a PS3 to a PS4.

Going to start a Manager Career with Newcastle tomorrow and try to put out the dumpster fire...team's got some talent that with a few upgrades should compete for the top-half and go deep in a cup with the right squad selections.

Do you mean the Transfer Market or for FIFA Points? The market is built into the game as well. You just trade easier on the web app in my opinion. I just went from 13,500 coins to around 25,000 in no time flipping cards that were stupidly priced.

For the transfer market. I don't plan on buying any points I think it'd be more fun to progress without doing so. Aren't there also iOS and Android apps for the market aswell?

Yeah, they should be releasing the companion app for iOS soon. It's much more fun to progress on your own, but it's really hard to start out without any help. That's why I always use the web app a lot. It allows me to trade casually while I'm not playing, and trading is half the battle.

Also, don't forget to use Futhead to look into players for Chemistry purposes. A lot of players who seem amazing don't play great, and a lot of steals in players can be found as well. Just have to do the research. For example, Danny Welbeck isn't a rare gold card and a lot of people downplay him, but with 85 pace, 76 shooting, 80 dribbling, and 71 passing, he's an animal for someone starting out. I pair him and Lacazette at the top right now. The chemistry isn't great, but god damn, they're fast and dangerous.

Played Pro Clubs for 4.5 hours straight after work yesterday. It started off pissing us off pretty bad. Got kicked from our first three games. But after that, we didn't have many problems. Completed 15 games after with pretty good success.
