You seem to be talking about drawing legit fouls. I'm more talking about flailing on the ground for forty seconds like you got sniped from 100 yards out. I love soccer but casual fans are correct about how often and how pathetic it is. It cannot be defended.

If the same guy has chopped me down four times, I'll "be more hurt" on each foul until he gets a card.

Yes, the flopping CAN BE ridiculous, but in many situations it's a bit more nuanced than the casual fan realizes. It's not always as cut and dry as it seems.

I think the Maxi Pereira red card at the end of Costa Rica/Uruguay is a great example.

Did it probably hurt like a motherfricker? Yes.
Was it a really shitty tackle? Yes.
Did Pereira need to be sent off? Yes.
Was it REALLY as bad as Campbell made it out to be? Probably not.

So, is that a flop or not?

He certainly got tripped up. That gif doesn't show what he did once on the ground. Did he stay down for forty second and flop around on the ground?

This and I'll add in diving for a defender when you get fouled and it could cause a goal scoring opportunity unless you fall to the ground. I get fouled the shite out of and a ref will not call it unless i fall because im a defender.

Acting hurt and flopping are not the same thing. When many players act hurt, they may not have even flopped. So what are you really against?

Flopping is part of soccer ... You want the foul to look bad so the opposing team gets a yellow ... Hopefully two for a red then it is 10 on 11 ... And direct free kicks are better than indirect

Yeah, there seems to be a slippery boundary in this thread between "diving" "flopping" and simply "embellishing" the severity of a foul.

To me "diving" is going down with no contact at all, "flopping" is making it seem like the lightest of touches knocks one into another zip code and "embellishing" is acting like the pain from a real foul is worse than it is.

It hasn't. People just see a guy go down and flip out, flop or not.

Good point. The floppers might be the fans crying about all the flopping going on!!!

you act like nobody calls out flopping in the NBA.

So, in your opinion, a player should do everything in their power to stay on their feetno matter what?

Because most (not all, but most) of the people that complain about it see a guy on the ground grabbing his ankle and say "this is why I hate soccer - all the damn flopping" with no actual idea of whether the guy is in any pain, or has been fouled.

I can get on board with those definitions. And all three are issues soccer really should address.

The embellishing is so damn pathetic.

There is such stigma when it comes to soccer and I honestly do not get it. Maybe it's because we are not that good at it as a country, but even during the olympics I see a lot of people cheering on our water polo and table tennis teams.

Because there is no tPOS stigma to basketball, no steroid stigma to MLB, and no "OMG IT'S TWO HAND TOUCH" stigma to NFL.

Most of the times they aren't in pain. Not to the extent they act. The video you showed is a great example. It was a chicken shite move by the Uruguayan but he took out his legs on his shin guard. Dude covered his face and then crawled on the ground in agony. Get up already.

They are trying things, but what can they really do?

It's easy to point out an obvious dive on replay, not so much in real time. Soccer refs are under the most pressure of any sports official in the world, asking them to weed out diving could lead to cards and suspensions for legitimate fouls.

Sure, you can retroactively fine and suspend players (not really stopping the issue in the NBA), but what if a flop/dive leads to a free kick that scores a winning goal? You damn well better believe that the diving player would not regret his decision.

You honestly sound like someone who's never played soccer before.

If Campbell doesn't come off the ground, there's a pretty good chance Pereira breaks his leg.

It's a 3"x6" plastic shin guard, not a car hood.

For one, shin guards don't do shite to protect. None of these guys are wearing the robocop guards you wore in U8. He took the full blow. Secondly, he's trying to get the guy sent off for a dangerous play that could have broken someone's leg. I hate it too, bit you have to understand that side of it.

Played my whole life. That's why I know that swipe on his guard does not hurt that bad.

You can try and convince people who never played otherwise but you won't me. Hell accidentally getting stepped on the top of your foot hurts worse than that play.
