Final to take place at Rose Bowl

quote:

CONCACAF, CONMEBOL and U.S. Soccer are finalizing plans to move forward with the Copa America Centenario in the United States next summer, multiple sources told ESPN FC, after corruption concerns threatened the tournament.

An official announcement of the could come as early as Friday, sources said.

The one-off, 16-team tournament, which will include Mexico, the U.S. and four other teams from North and Central America and the Caribbean alongside 10 South American nations -- former World Cup winners Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay among them -- will mark the 100th anniversary celebration of that continent's regional championship.

If true, great news. Was looking forward to this and was bummed when it looked like it was DOA

Same. Really want to try to make it out to watch Chile play a game in person. They are probably my favorite national team to watch right now and for the obvious reason of wanting to see Alexis play.

Hopefully we can make it out of the group stages

I hope we turn things around before this tournament. It's sad that my first thought wasn't elation that this was going to happen; it was dread that the USMNT will get stomped into the ground.

Oh yeah, another summer of tinkered lineups and shite tactics.

If Panama and Honduras outshot us 70-25 I can only imagine what these South American nations will do

I'm not believing anything until the first ball is kicked. And maybe not even then.

Everyone stays healthy, Chile has to go in as a co-fav with Brazil. Ecuador and Columbia could both make runs. Unless Mexico gets gifted goals like in Gold Cup, Concacaaf is fricked.

I feel for anyone who goes to an Argentina or Mexico game and has to watch those teams flop all game.

As bad as Mexico is at cheating and diving, Argentina is just as bad and what makes it worse, is they actually have the talent, to not have to dive and flop for calls, yet that Di Maria and his buddies will be on full display.

I'm glad that it's going forward, but I really feel like it was all posturing to "punish" the US for being "snitches". I think it's pretty convenient that things are all working themselves out not long after Sepp and Pals gets slapped with a ban with the regime ending looking like a real possibility.

There's too much money to be made for everyone for them to realistically take it away. We're like teenagers who've had sex for the first time when it comes to the sport in this country. It goes from something that you hear is great and want to see what it's all about to suddenly it being something that you can't get enough of. With all of the money flying around in the US that wasn't there before, we're going to see a lot of clubs and national teams suddenly acting like they always thought we were sexy to get a piece of it. US Soccer is the girl who went from a river troll in middle school to a 10 in high school. We still have the mindset of a river troll and crave validation so we're going to give it up to anyone decent who wants to come in and tell us that we're worthy.

The article acts like it was solely about the investigation, but it seemed like all the planning stalled out before the FIFA stuff got going, no?
