Brazil question....

Have they forgone the score and be flashy type play to be solid in the back and just win the trophy? Or is it the talent they are producing is just not as flashy and have incredible depth in the back now?

Their coach emphasizes a more solid defensive model
They seem much better defensively than prior, but starting a 38 (or whatever) yo Thiago Silva and bringing a 40yo Dani Alves doesn't scream defensive depth
Maybe they are taking the French approach to 2018 that won the WC while playing very pragmatic and only really turning it on when truly needed
I'm very curious to see how this Brazil turns out - they've fallen to good European opposition since 2002 but this WC their only potential European giant would be in the final. Sure Croatia and potential Ned first but not at the level of Ned 10 Germany 14 and Belgium 18

They’re fully capable of the flash, especially if Neymar is healthy.
They have arguably the strongest front lineup in the WC talent wise as well.
It just needs to all come together.

In recent years the flashiness in general in the game has taken a step back or two. It’s still there but not near the level it was say 15-20 years ago.
Defending has gotten so much better…smarter maybe the better word. Instead of diving in trying to get the ball 99% of the time they just try to contain / force you a certain way. So it has kind of negated the need for a lot of flair in todays game.
It’s still there, but much more off the ball movement, one twos, and overlaps to beat opponents in the modern game.

Brazil ditched joga bonito when it failed in the 80s. 1994 team isn't fondly remembered bc of how it played.

That Korean defender should have planted his head right on Richarlisons big nose for dribbling the ball on his head like that. I can't stand that guy.

To your point though, this is a complete Brazil team with some real experience in defense.

You should read about his upbringing. Might change your mind.

I think you just saw a few games without Neymar. And once they went up early, previously only scored in the 2nd half of games, the flare came out.
Plus they still have Antony. He will do a million stepovers like he did against Cameroon.

I never liked him, but yeah he donates money out of his paycheck to feed families in Brazil and in England he pays for cancer patients accommodations.
But he is also a big pusher of gay rights, vaccines and Black Lives Matter. Not that anything is wrong with those issues. But to me that’s more of you hired a publicist that says, helping cancer patients is great, but this is what moves the needle in 2020 and beyond.
