Not true. We needed a win against Wales OR Iran. Since GGG got outcoached in the Wales game (we got rope-a-doped, running around like 8 year-olds hopped up on sugar and caffeine for a half before a rested Wales counterattacked) now we have to win against Iran. But a win against Wales and a draw with Iran probably would have been enough to get us through. This World Cup has highlighted the American propensity to handcuff ourselves with bad leadership!

This part is true. The game today is almost irrelevant. Even with a win, you still need at least a draw with Iran. With a win against Iran, you are through no matter what. Makes sense to focus on that game. England sucked at 18th-century unconventional warfare. They are much better at soccer! A win today and they clinch the group and can rest their entire lineup against Wales to prep for the Round of 16. Any kind of a result today will take tremendous effort and probably cost injuries and suspensions of players we will desperately need Tuesday. The risk is not worth the reward.
