You're right. I was thinking Giggs, but he's retired.

first game back, Wales vs. England and he wore the armband. I think he's at the helm not withstanding injury

This is SERIOUSLY disheartening if all we get is Yossi or nothing. I know we tried, but FFS this is why you don't wait until the last 3 days to replace players.

And to top it off it is apparently player wages that is throwing off the Arteta deal...

yeah, pretty frickin' underwhelming/depressing if he is the end product for our midfield. he would be good depth, certainly not ideal as a starter.

@johncrossmirror #afc All off on Arteta. Appears it's Yossi or bust...

Wenger was so close to pulling off a fine end to the transfer window, but now it feels all for naught. (though I guess if its wages, its on the board, not Arsene.) We better buy a top talent in January.

Wenger isn't involved in these talks though.

Another problem is that it seems he doesn't really even know who he wants to add at midfield.

Reposting something I read

quote:

Pjanic, Inler, Vidal, Toulalan, Witsel, Menez, and Matuidi have all moved for fees similar or less than the one we have just failed with for Arteta. Moreover, we must have a war-chest that absolutely dwarfs that fee. And we're going for Benayoun? I trust Wenger to guide us out of this slump, but surely he surely could have done better than this.

It really is depressing to see Arsenal settle for players not of the highest quality at midfield, somewhat outcasts/rejects(Yossi) from their current clubs.

Given the position we're in, I'm fine with a loan for Benayoun. It will give time for Wilshere and Ramsey to develop even more and run the midfield without assistance in the future. We will still need to pick up another distributor a year from now for depth purposes (two if Rosicky leaves), but at least it won't be a panic buy.

Ouch, truth hurts sadly. Via Stewart Pearce

quote:

The real buzz amongst Arsenal fans this morning that we might see a signing along the lines of M'Villa, Vargas, Hazard or Martin. Now to hear that "all efforts" are being put into capturing benayoun on loan really is a smack in the teeth. I expect Man City et al are quaking in their boots

But there is still 3 hours left for something we all can enjoy(crosses fingers, knocks on wood...)

I don't get why Lille would sign Joe Cole unless they were planning for Hazard to leave.

Why does anyone sign Joe Cole? Answer: He dates models.

Since it's been so quiet can we go ahead and assume that an absolutely MASSIVE signing is to take place in the next 2 hours?
