I just don’t think Gyokeres is good enough for the level we need and never will be. I’m just curious to see if and when they cut their losses.
Of all the ones that moved they kind of all been meh so far except Ekitike. 9 goals in all comps compared to 6 for Gyokeres.
Who was probably 4th or 5th choice from the fans. Even players we were linked with in the past like Cunha has just 1 goal all season.
But I do think if we are going to play with Gyokeres we need to play with Odegaard and Trossard.

The real problem with him is that he cannot generate chances for himself. Completely reliant on service, and he is often not in the right place when he needs to be.
When was the last time we had a forward who did this? Wolcott?
Quote from Arteta after the game yesterday:
After the wolves game, regarding Gyokeres needing to contribute more whilst also requiring service, Arteta said: "It's a collaboration between the two. He was in a lot of really good positions and the ball didn't get into the area quick enough, sharp enough or just with the precision that is required for a No.9 to score the goal. But his work rate and intentions were there and we need to keep insisting."

Yeah I watched that game, Palace had plenty of opportunities to score just didn’t take them.
There was the ball to Pino where he hit the cross bar and I just want us to pass more like that.
We’ve done it once and it was the Merino pass in the NLD.

Jesus. Havertz at times.
Folks like to say the service sucks, but Vik sucks at ball retention and doing anything but shoot.
And if you want to argue, watch a few clips of Ekitike. You'll come away thinking that we should have spent the extra $25M

I think his ball retention, hold up play, and passing from holding the ball up has gotten light years better since the United game. Plus let us not forget he is just returning from a month long injury. It will be the same with Havertz. He will need a few weeks to kick on.
Also Ben White out for a month (5 to 6 weeks with a hamstring injury)
We have to survive the remaining league fixtures this month with only Timber, Saliba, Hincapie, Calafiori (who can play RB btw) and MLS. That is asking alot IMO. We may have to sniff at a loan option in January. Maybe buy Ben White's replacement 6 months earlier than expected.

The defender injuries are getting retarded
Posted on 12/15/25 at 11:39 am to texastiger38
Also, seemed like a really silly decision to let him start a 3rd game in a row, just play timber RB and MLS. Which ended up happening anyway
Posted on 12/15/25 at 1:25 pm to texastiger38
That was a mistake.
We could have gone back to 3/4 of last seasons back line but decided to change it completely and go with one we’ve never used.
It would have been Timber, Saliba, Hincapie, mls.
Pretty much end of last year but swap Hincapie for kiwior.

I really hope to be proven wrong on Gyokeres and would gladly eat crow. I really like him personally, he is passionate and works his arse off. But definitely has a lot of deficiencies in his game.
His supposed strengths were making runs into channels, ball striking, and his overall strength as a player. Facing a low block (probably half our PL games) negates the first strength and he has average speed. I’ve yet to see him run by any defender this year and usually gets outrun. He’s also not very quick or agile which is why he has trouble getting onto crosses and he’s been tossed around by many of the PL CBs he has faced this season.
Then the attributes we knew going into this season that weren’t his strengths; playing with his back to the goal, headers, ball retention (passing), pressing, or creating his own shot. Havertz does everyone of these things better than Gyokeres and there is no signs for significant improvement other than his touch and passing has slightly improved since the beginning of the season.
Like I said I hope to be proven wrong and if so that means we are lifting trophies at the end of the season.

It took Haaland a long time to adjust to City. We are in same boat with him.

We need Vik to kick on soon or we are gonna have some Wenger In Wenger Out type battles in this bit

People wanting to sell Odegaard too.
Im just kind of like, guys. Can we wait until the end of the season. We shouldn't be moving anyone on in January. We need all hands-on deck.
But our fans want to get rid of players and the manager during the season. Glad they don't run the club.

Mainstream internet Arsenal fans can make the rant seem sane at times.
Calling for Arteta’s head when we’re first in the premier league and first in the champions league because we had an off week at the end of a brutal stretch of games with brutal injury luck is so utterly moronic.
Same for any player at this stage, but especially the manager. Jesus Christ.

I'm not an Arteta out, but player selection against certain teams seems questionable. The guys that started up front for the Villa & Wolves games should have been flip flopped based on the anticipated defenses.
Hopefully the team starts playing up the their level after this week off. We haven't looked the same since the 2H of the Bayern game.

I don’t think Gykores had started a game since his injury until after the Villa game. So good chance him not starting was due to the injury.
Second, Arteta rebuilt the entire team from scratch and has been the only constant over the last 6 years as Arsenal went from basically a mid-table side to arguably the best team in Europe. It’s wild to feel like you have to caveat “I’m not Arteta out” because he may gotten the starting forward choice wrong in a couple of games.
Not necessarily putting that on you but I think it’s absurd that enough of the fanbase is talking along those lines that you feel the need to say that

I've been critical of him in the past for sure, don't get me wrong.
His tactics have changed for the better, but we still have a ways to go on the attacking front.
I don't think there is a better team out of possession in the world, but at times it certainly feels like that same attribute costs us on the attacking front. Definitely some give and take there, and because we are so good defensively, just a small uptick in attacking goes a long way.
We need to get healthy (wishful thinking, I know) and play like we are capable on the attacking front

I look at a couple of things.
Just 4 years ago we were praying to be top 4. Well, we have been one of the best teams in the league. Yes, we haven't won it, but after this season every manager will have finished behind Arteta.
We have been the best team in the group stage of the champions league over 3 seasons. Yes, we haven't won it yet, but we weren't even this good under Wenger.
And last, everyone is signing new contracts. They aren't running off to the Manchester clubs or Chelsea anymore.
I also see people saying we need to hire someone who has won a title. Well, Amorin has won a title. Should we hire him? What about Slot? Liverpool fans want him out.
