Gabriel has three matches to make the spot next to Kosc his own. Hopefully he plays at an undroppable level.
Let's hope. Per was positionally poor on that passage of play. Like some of the worst positioning I've seen. Why the hell did he step up to play Costa goalside? He would have been fine if he dropped off as soon as Willian pressed high. Flamini did a poor job closing the passing angle. If he stepped to the right and had shown Willian to his strong side, the passing lane is closed and a running lane is opened, with everyone tracking back at full speed.
And Flamini was incredibly poor all game. He missed some brilliant chances, and I frankly don't trust his passing game in the final third. Arteta is a better partner for Ramsey because he can create an angle for a pass to Ramsey. Ramsey playing as a DLP was fricking horrible today.
And this is the game I wish we had Wilshere. He could drive from deep and bend Chelsea out of shape. He is better than Flamini, and is a natural choice to supplant Santi. I wish he wasn't fricking injured though.
And I'll be honest. I really hate watching Flamini play. All he seems to do is point around. He can't even do his job well.
Our strategy once we went down to 10 was pretty great though. Get the ball to the 18 and use shallow runs off the edge to get opportunities. The team played really well at 10 men.

Is the red a one or three match ban?
Posted on 1/24/16 at 7:04 pm to cwil177
Straight red is three match. Two yellows is one match.

Massive silver lining is that Gabs gets an extended run in the side for a bit. Per's speed has been bothering me a lot lately and I think we look better with Gabs anyway (we definitely did today).

Slow motion replay shows there may have been zero contact with Costa. Of course. Per put the ref in a bad spot with his tackle, but why oh why do refs keep believing Costa in, well, anything.

I thought because it was a non-violent red card, it is only a 1 game ban?

It was 100% a red card. I have no idea why Per decided to do that so early in the game. Put some faith in your world class keeper and even if you do go down 1-0, you have 70 more minutes to get back into the game.

Agreed. Couldn't believe he did that so early in the match. Here lately, Aresenal have trouble making it to the half with 11 men.

Next year all you guys close enough need to come atleast watch the match during next year's Gooner Gras. We went international this year with people from as far away as freaking Malaysia!!!
The result sucked, but a great time was had by all attendees.

Great news. Time to start getting results again.

This was discussed on the Arsecast this week, but it will be really interesting to see Arsene's approach to the lineup. There are a lot of questions. Rest will be a big factor with a tough match Tuesday against a Southampton squad that has won 3 straight and wrecked us over the holiday period.
Do we give Kos a rest or work on the partnership with Gabriel? It might be tough pairing Gabs and Chambers. Horrible images of the Liverpool match at home come to mind. Bellerin certainly needs a rest at LB, so does that force Arsene to play Kos? Who do you pair with Elneny? Do you start Coq and get him off early or bring him on for a 30 minute outing? Do you start Giroud up top since he essentially got a break last weekend? Or, do you get Walcott a shift since it is becoming clear that he is a liability on the flank? Lots of questions. This is what I'd like to see.
Chambers Gabriel Kos Gibbs
Elneny Ramsey
Ox Ozil Alexis
Walcott
If all goes well, bring on Iwobi to spell Alexis, Arteta to spell Ramsey, and I guess Coq to replace Ozil when we are comfortably ahead.

I'm good with the back six.
If Ozil's foot is possibly an issue, I'd rest him and play a 4-3-3 with Ox central, Alexis and Theo wide, Giroud up top.
I don't think Theo is a liability wide, I think he's ineffective from the left. He's much better at the out to in run from the right side, where he can receive the ball on his strong foot. He's awful from the left, minus the Man City belter, which is more exception than rule.

We need Sanchez on the left. We need anyone but Flamini in the middle. Ramsey looks lost with him as a partner. Ramsey is also playing like a shithead. If Jack comes back he deserves some time there, because he's not only a far better DLP, he's slightly more intelligent with the ball.

Hopefully Flam's season is done. With Elneny, Ramsey, Ox, Arteta, Rosicky, Coquelin, and eventually Wilshere and Santi, we should have enough to avoid using him.
Ramsey has been better on the right this year than centrally, despite that patch of goals and assists when he moved back inside. He and Bellerin had a good understanding, and when he tucked in, we were in a nice little diamond with Ozil at the tip and Alexis pushing up as a left sided forward. That was our most dynamic attacking look.
Looking forward to Welbeck's return, too. I have a lot of faith in him becoming an elite striker.

Please no chambers on the right.

Got to get Bellerin some rest at some point. Debuchy is apparently on the way out, so the only option may only be Chambers.

I got a little hope when I saw on Twitter that Jenkins had been recalled from West Ham. Then, I remembered seeing him get injured Saturday, and the article said it was because he is out for the season.
