We have to get the best out of Ozil, and the simple answer to getting the best out of Ozil is to play him centrally and get runners around him.

This. When he is out wide he is much less effective at what we brought him here to do, which was essentially provide the final ball to our speed guys. From the middle he has 3 offensive options (go to his right, go to his left, go forward), but when he is played at LW he has one option... go right. I watched some FA cup highlights from last year, today, and it was amazing how good we looked with Walcott making his runs into space. Everything was so open and Santi, Ozil, and even Gnabry were picking people apart.

Ive pretty much lost all optimism for this season. I will gladly eat crow though.

Arsene is just being a stubborn count and im going to scream at my tv at 640 am if ozil is fit and playing on the left.

We match with them well. The 6-3 beatdown at the Etihad last season was a truly bizarre match.

It wasnt like the others, they got calls that shouldnt have gone there way and we didnt get some that should. But then we get pounded by pool, chelsea and everton and we prob didnt deserve to win that either even though with a competent ref we would have at least tied.

We haven't lost a match since the Emirates Cup. Saturday is going to be a tremendous test, but I like our chances at home.

This does bother me because he must have defensive cover and it is certainly not his strength.

I was thinking that this summer we got two England internationals, players who are usually extremely overpriced, for 30 mil. I'm hoping Welbeck works out, but Chambers already looks like our future at CB. Solid work by Wenger on that front. We won't have to worry about meeting the HGP quota for quite a while.

agreed.

also, i kinda mentioned it in that match report, but i'm starting to get on board with the idea that zelalem could/should be a DLP. watching that match yesterday, for 85 minutes zelalem just retained the ball and moved it around effortlessly (which is less fun to watch higher up the pitch). always played smart, never really took any risks. he hasn't shown pinpoint long balls, but he's shown he's the best passer of the ball at our youth level. maybe he should be groomed for that role.

I definitely see his future there and not at the ten position.

Does he have the physical attributes to be a DLP? I don't think you always need a hulking player to guard your back 4 and retain possession, but you do still have to have someone who can win the ball and who cannot be pushed off the ball in possession.

I'm not second guessing your opinion. I genuinely don't know. I have, unfortunately, seen very little of his play.

Watch Pirlo. He isn't an imposing specimen.

Jack is quoted on arsenal's site about studying Pirlo and Mascherano lately to improve his DM play. I gotta think we're working toward a Ramsey-Wilshere pairing down the line. As in within the next year or two. Especially since we didn't buy a DM.

and there it is, suicide

Ozil is lost on the wing. God this is frustrating, we dominated the first 25 minutes.

Ozil does no work defensively, and again we get destroyed on the counter. Per just ball watching. This is so frustrating. Why the frick won't Arsene play Ozil centrally? If this continues the Ozil transfer will go down as one of the biggest busts we've had in the transfer market.

I know there are always arguments about his demeanor and that is just how he looks. But he just looks so damn lethargic out there.
