I'm fairly sure they can be called back at a fee.

Welbeck's a handy player when given the opportunity. He might be one of the few players who is actually better for England than for his club. This goal in Euro 2012 was a cheeky bit of skill.

I don't love welbeck but we needed a body up front and his pace and desire to make runs should help us. He's certainly better than sanogo.

Absolutely incredible we didn't sign a CB. surprised we didn't sign a DM, but not as surprised about the CB situation.

Agreed. Chambers is going to be stretched so thin with the possibility of covering at three different positions. We need to call Jenko back from West Ham.

So we signed welbeck? God I'm mad. He solves nothing really. We already needed another striker to back up giroud, we are thin in midfield already. Gibbs and kosc have already missed pt due to injury. This is the most disappointing off season in wengers career. We start off nice really only strengthening the attack. We replaced players that left. Then let more leave without replacing them. Everyone laughs at Arsenal. I'm just sick of wengers bullshite. We will battle for 4th with everton and spurs until he retires.

while this was a disappointing end to the transfer window to call it the most disappointing of wengers career is ludicrous.

This may sound crazy but I think Bellerin is almost ready for the big time. He was awesome this preseason. Put him next to Mertescielney and he'll be fine.

We should've gotten a CB for cover, but it's a tricky proposition to try and buy a 3rd or perhaps even 4th choice CB. Remember how much we hated playing guys like Djourou and squillaci? Those are the caliber of players willing to sit the bench. To get high caliber backup CB's you have to go young, which we did with chambers. But elite, young CB's don't grow on trees. And if you rate Bellerin the same as Jenkinson, our defense isn't really any thinner than it was last year. We're going to have to ride our luck, but at least it's high quality all the way through.

CDM is more interesting. Certainly we can upgrade talent wise over Arteta and Flamini, but I think the CDM position got put on a bit of a pedestal last season. Yes we got killed by City, Pool, Chelsea, and Everton, but is that really all on Arteta? Stoke just beat Man City 1-0 at the Etihad and they certainly don't have a world class CDM. A quadruple of Arteta/Flamini/Wilshere/Chambers is perfectly fine to dominate 90% of teams we play. Against the other 10% Wenger will just have to change his tactics. Also giving up early set piece goals and/or red cards would help so we won't be forced to chase a goal for 90 minutes

Not when you hear for 10 years that they will be able to compete once the stadium gets paid and new deals kick in. We let more players go then we bought. It sucks because we have the money, but penny pinched again. Not so ludicrous when you've been a fan for so ling waiting on the money to roll in just for wenger to fricking sit on it.

Hurt, decent, history of injuries, will play more rb and cb because we failed to strengthen the defense.

I don't know how you Arsenal fans feel about Welbeck, but I think he will turn out to be a great signing. He thrives when he is able to link up with players and exchange one-touch passes. He is quick and has a long stride which eats up ground. He will chase the ball and do the work required as a lone striker. He is only 23, and I hate to see him leave United. He can improve on his finishing, but I think he will get plenty of opportunities to improve in that area as he meshes well with Arsenal's style of play.

I could be wrong, but I think the doubters are in for a very pleasant surprise. Congratulations

I feel nauseated after yesterday. We are going to get stomped by the other teams competing for a top 4 spot this year, except for totts. We are one injury away, at any of our defensive positions, from being up shite creek without a paddle. To have the money and choose not to spend it, and to not fill areas of need when you have an entire summer to do so, is inexcusable. This falls on Wenger.

It's weird. In terms of the quality of player we brought in – Sanchez, Welbeck, Debuchy, Chambers, Ospina – I'm quite happy.

But depth at defense is an issue (unless Bellerin is ready, which
I'm not sure he is), and our DM quality is lacking.

If we are moving to a double pivot of Ramsey and Wilshere, it needs to start now. If that's the midfield pairing of the future, quit playing Arteta/Flamini behind them and Ozil on the left and let Jack and Rambo figure it out, growing pains and all.

Anyone have the final numbers on our net spending?

if welbeck cost 16m, then ~45m net in fees. not counting big, long term contracts with all of them which was likely higher than all of their replacees.

we had a fairly good summer overall. only real sticking point for me is CB. that's nuts. DM, i think we can live. debuchy still scares me. he's a good player, but totally different from sagna and not at all the best to pair with per. ospina should be a great addition, chambers has been great, alexis is world class. welbeck is solid and has some potential to improve. all we need to do now is move ozil centrally and we're good most of our issues is we look out of whack. i think as these guys get used to each other, and switch to a more familiar formation, we'll be much improved.

Arsenal asked about signing VVD and Celtic told Arsenal to frick themselves.

Y'all are being too hard on Wenger.

honestly this seems to happen every year. granted we do have early injury problems, but with one or two exceptions, our seasonal refrain is "why aren't we in mid-season form within week 2?!"
