Looks like this group will come down to the wire. I am kinda nervous. Having to travel to both BVB, and Napoli. Going to need to draw one of those two matches at worst.

win at home to Marseille, draw at Dortmund or Napoli and I think we're good. Should be interesting though!
today's match was weird. i'm not too bummed, despite the result. they had one chance (and one shot) in the second half and converted it. their first goal was on a dumb mistake by Rambo. disappointing, but fun match between two evenly matched squads. we're still working on the gelling process and we need to get guys back in so that we can rotate.
sucks we conceded from going all out attacking when a point would have been a solid result for us. if we miss out on the knockout round, i may remember this match differently, but this match showed more for me about our team's chances to contend more than any of our wins so far this year, except for maybe Napoli. now onto CP this weekend. Ozil really needs a breather. Giroud too. Give them a full week and a half on sub duty before 'Pool and BVB rd 2 IMO.

If Napoli and BVB draw one another while we lose to one of them then I will be incredibly nervous.
This match Arsenal in the final 15 minutes of the first half, and the final 30 minutes of the second half looked quite good. We were pushing for that goal, but only had the Cazorla chance as far as good chances go. I wish we had settled down better at the start of both halves though, I can only imagine what it will be like traveling to BVB and facing their entire stadium of loyal supporters.

When Cazorla came on the pitch widened and we looked more likely to score. Hats off to Dortmund for converting their chance. They also did a great job in killing off the match with their play in the corner.
My only gripe is the first half had 2 goals and a card with no stoppage time at all. Thought it would be added in the second half. A card and four subs equals more than 3 minutes. Oh well, we need to prove our worth on the pitch. Just how it should be.

And it didn't even go the full 3 minutes, either. That ref was a count.
That said, it's our fault we lost. One real shot on goal in the 2nd half on a counter and they convert it due to slack defending in the back. Sagna made good runs forward but his passing needs to be better.
Ramsey was just... bad. I'll let him have one bad game, but he did really cost us. Don't play with the ball in the back
I'm concerned we couldn't beat a depleted Dortmund with a coach on a touchline ban, with a mostly full strength squad.

Lewa probably should have been off for his elbow on Kos, but whatevs. Someone as experienced as him should know how to better unintentionally-but-intentionally elbow.
I wouldn't be too concerned. They're a great team that played a very strong XI. We weren't full strength either.
I don't think Rambo was that bad, other than his error, which was very bad.

Rambo had a nice finish on the phantom call on either Kos or Mert.
Two of the best 6 teams in Europe squaring off. Chances were our way, they finished. We will be the two to get through.

I really think we can get a result in Dortmund if Theo is healthy. Big if though.

We have had great results on the road historically. We shall see. Theo is a huge part going forward.

Would make the difference. Schmelzer would not be able to cope with his speed/runs, plus the interchanging of he and Özil.

I liked this interview with Giroud. Taking more interest in him, especially after how he played today. He was by far our best player, imo. He's got quite the personality.

When asked why Puma, at the end of that bit, he says:
"I think I'll continue this adventure with them, because simply, they were there at the beginning, they've been loyal, and above all else... they pay well! Haha... but no, I'm just being a jackass. No, no but it's also true, I feel good in Puma."
Definitely NOT what was subtitled, haha.
When asked about who he thought was the best player he's played with, this is what he actually said:
“I think Santi Cazorla. Well, in the French team there are good players too, but he is so… well, yeah, he really impresses me. He is like, 'this' tall, and he makes marvels."
And they get super fricked up at the 1:50 mark. He says in La Liga, it's Barca and Real where you have some very, very good players, but compared to it, the Premier League is better.
When asked about London, he says, "Well, you know, we like to visit the capital" blah blah blah "and my wife, well, she likes to do shopping... from time to time" (sarcastic).
The subtitles don't say what his tattoo means in Latin, but he said it meant, "The eternal is my shepherd, I lack nothing." It's a psalm, not a "phrase."
The other tattoos are Polynesian, specifically Maori.
He actually went into a lot of details about the shoes at the end, how they have good support, a good texture, etc., and they cut some of that out too. So maybe it wasn't Puma that translated this.

We didn't look that bad yesterday, other than Ramsey getting caught on the ball, which to be fair, happened to Wilshere and him all night. They both love the dribble to make space, but Dortmund is far too good at pressing for us to do that. In terms of movement, I thought Rosicky, Ozil, and Cazorla were our standouts especially in how to use the ball to beat the press. Jack and Rambo still don't understand how to move the ball quickly to relieve pressure, since in the league they can often dribble through most opposition, since most teams do not press like Dortmund.
It was frustrating, as apart from those mistakes, we deserved something from the game. We were better than Dortmund for long stretches, especially after the first 20 minutes, and it sucks that we will have to rely on points at Dortmund and Napoli to see the group out. I think we can get points at both venues, though it would help in a massive way if we had some god damn wingers. If we had a player who could have pinned Grosskreutz back at all, this game would have been entirely different. I'm beginning to become annoyed at playing Wilshere wide, as he is so left footed and has such an inclination to play centrally that it clogs the midfield too much, especially when we play someone right-footed on the left.
One thing about the Flamini-Arteta axis is that they aren't naive. Flamini would have been in a better position on the 2nd goal, in terms of numbers. Flamini is probably a better partner for Arteta and Aaron more so than they are good partners for each other.
Also if we can get Dortmund to play narrow again, Gibbs and Sagna have to have a better game. I wouldn't mind pairing Gibbs and Monreal on the left, as they would work supremely well together to stop any attacks down the right, which is where Dortmund won the game.
Also I don't know if I should be disappointed with Chesney, as he was beat near post on both goals. He wasn't put in the best position, but near post goals always should be savable.

It was very evident that Arsenal played a lot better as soon as Santi replaced Jack.

Definitely. Night and Day once he came on. If only we had Theo on the wing to provide some threat and help keep their defense honest and tucked back in. Giroud was also great at latching on to the through balls, and holding up the ball waiting for support yesterday.

Any of you guys and girl think we are going to see a complete thrashing of CP on Saturday? I'm talking about an Invincibles style 6 or 7 nil type match?
Posted on 10/24/13 at 12:31 pm to glassman
not impossible since all reports are suggesting Palace will be manager-less this weekend

Lineups from the BPL Facebook page:
Is Chamakh allowed to play against us?
Also, I don't like the idea of Flamini and Arteta playing at the same time.
