quote:
I broach the thorny subject of which Premier League team Luck calls his own, remarking that an equal number of Arsenal and Tottenham fans have reached out to me believing he was a fellow supporter, a local rivalry akin to Stanford and Oregon. "I know it might not make sense, but I try to support as many of the American fellows playing over there [in the Premier League] as possible,” he says to clarify any misunderstanding. "I started supporting Tottenham because of Clint Dempsey ... but now that he's gone I'm open again, and now you have Jozy Altidore on Sunderland, Brek Shea and Geoff Cameron on Stoke. ... I don't know if that's fair or not."
quote:
Upon further consideration, Luck circles back to the question to define his affiliation. "The team that I follow completely is the Houston Dynamo," he says. "That's my No. 1 team in my heart because my father used to work for that club [as founding president and general manager]," he said. "I'm definitely plugged into the MLS season fairly heavily. ... It's fun to see the league grow. I think it's great for the sport in this country."

Listen to it pretty often. Amazing how much they can get across on tone alone. The one guy should read books on tape cause he is so good at controlling his tone to what he means to say.

Can anyone explain why this year they are saying "Nigel" instead of Everton?

I think Nigel is actually their nickname for Roberto Martinez. Could be wrong though. And even if I'm right I have no idea where that came from either

I share the same sentiment as Luck for choosing an EPL team and rooting for the American players. The team I most associate with is Brighton, in the Championship.

You should just be glad he loves German soccer. he lived there for about 6 years and said that's a big reason why he went to the CL final.

Nigel is his brother's name. they just kind of randomly chose another name for Everton because of how much Bennett cringed and got scared/paranoid every time they talked about his team (doesn't want to jinx it, likes his negativity and being the underdog etc)

But he's a manly football player with masculinity and America fueling him! Why doesn't he think that soccer is a terrible sport for gays?
Oh, that's right. It's because he actually enjoys sports and isn't a has-been high school football player with some very uncomfortable homosexual tendencies to cover up.
