How do we not have a Gold Cup/Copa Oro/Coupe d’Or thread yet?
Have to admit I’m enjoying the St. Kitts & Nevis-French Guiana match tonight. Secretly hoping for French Guiana so we can hear La Marseillaise three more times next week!

ETA: Or I was enjoying it until the third weather delay of the night.

Can’t find any odds, but here are the current FIFA rankings of the participants:

Group A
13 USA
63 Jamaica
104 Trinidad & Tobago
139 St. Kitts & Nevis

Group B
15 Mexico
61 Qatar
80 Honduras
87 Haiti

Group C
39 Costa Rica
58 Panama
75 El Salvador
— Martinique (not ranked since part of France)

Group D
47 Canada
116 Guatemala
165 Cuba
— Guadeloupe (not ranked since part of France)

Jamaica may have the most talented squad in the field.

We play them first.

For once Mexico got the “Group of Death.” Though it’s really just the “Group of Mild Discomfort!”

This tournament would be so much more entertaining without US, Mexico, and Canada

I guess that’s why we send B/C teams, to keep it interesting! But also why we need to make a Copa Americas every four years a standing tournament.
I think Canada has a clear path to the semis. I’m curious how motivated Qatar will be without the pressure of not embarrassing themselves on a global stage (which they pretty much did anyway!) Mexico is a riddle wrapped in an enigma—they could crash out in the group stage or win the whole thing. We could win it, but I don’t think it’s fair to say we should win it, given who we’ve sent and how badly we’ve embarrassed our neighbors lately. Panama and Jamaica are more than capable of pulling an upset or two. I think Costa Rica is still in a replacement cycle and don’t expect much from them.
I doubt the group stage will bring much excitement, but the knockout rounds could get interesting.

Maybe, but the team they took is not good.

What team is the USA sending?

The Nations League winners or their understudies?

Only 5 holdovers from Nations Leauge: Turner and MRob, and then Zendejas, Sonora and Johnson who didn't play in either Nations League match.

How Mexico is ranked 15th in the world is the real question.

Canada’s team has 16 of the 23 they took to the Nation’s League. They left off all of their top attacking talent, but their midfield is decent and their defense serviceable, even without Johnston. Nashville SC’s Shaffelburg could have a breakout tournament, out of Mukhtar’s shadow. Canada Roster

Holy shite this thing starts this weekend?

Man Nations League has completely killed any buzz for this tournament.

It really is so dumb that they are so close together because you're basically begging the teams in the nations league semis to not bring their big players for the Gold Cup.

Is this going to be the norm or is it just a result of covid or the World Cup throwing the schedule out of whack?

I can get behind that squad. Need to develop some depth and really want to see Cowell against the big boys.

Miazga and Yedlin should provide some entertainment as well.
