YouTube Overtakes TV as Top Source of Political News, Study Finds

I have mixed emotions on this, on the one hand:
Hooray! frick the gaslighting legacy media!
On the other hand:
YouTube, owned by google, has been proven to be a biased source that hides and censors information from conservative voices (seems to have gotten better of late, but still, why trust a snake)

quote:the only real question is why only 60%???
The Center for the Creator Economy’s inaugural industry Flash Report Survey finds six in 10 Americans say they trust independent creators as much as professional journalists.
quote:
? 61% of Americans trust a well-known independent news creator as much as a
well-known professional journalist or a major news organization on political topics.
? 67% say doing the reporting matters more than formal journalism credentials.
? 86% trust independent news creators more when they publicly correct their mistakes, the strongest trust signal in the study.
? 79% still see a meaningful difference between an independent news creator and a
journalist.
quote:
Party lines matter too: compared with Independents, Republicans place greater trust in independent news creators, while Democrats place greater trust in professional journalists and news organizations.

This is understandable to me, and the reason this has happened is because the corrupt, bought-and-paid-for corporate media is so reprehensible that they have created a void to be filled.
For example, nobody would've ever heard of Nick Shirley if the corporate media were really professional and honestly trying to do their job. But they aren't, which has created the necessity for people like Shirley and others.
Every fair-minded objective person should have a ton more respect for somebody like Nick Shirley as opposed to well-paid little propaganda puppets like Fake Jake Tapper, little George Stephanopoulos, or Oprah Pimpfrey's little girlfriend Gayle King.

Makes sense to me. Between youtube and here, so many things are covered that aren't even touched by the "real" media today. That's what you get when you take out the corps and agendas. Let people speak their mind without being told what to say.

I agree with you.
I wish that there were platforms that give YT enough competition to be noteworthy alternatives. Particularly towards their content creators. And to the people watching content.
Platforms that aren't ruled by "The YT Overlords".
Noteworthy to mention that most of the MSM has taken to YT as well. Since they hope to get back some of the attention that they've lost to the infotubers.
Which, they hate. They have an utter disdain for infotubers.

As long as a healthy dose of skepticism exists. We don't see enough of that around here sometimes, unfortunately.

I watch a lot of political stuff on youtube.
I don't think they censor very much at all. It's pretty crazy the stuff they allow on both sides.

That isn't really the issue with youtube
The real issue with youtube is it keeps feeding you things that you tend to already agree with so it becomes a self reinforcing algorithmic loop

I watch YouTube. I haven’t watched Fox News since the 2020 election. It’s in the same category as the other cable news channels.

I believe it's safe to say most online media platforms do this.
Legacy media works the same way if you think about it. People only watch the networks that feeds them the things they already agree with.
The right watches Fox and Newsmax.
The left watches everything else.
So it's logical to say no media platform out there offers diverse news from different political viewpoints. Not that I know of anyway..

Of course
Which creates societal problems. When everything is self reinforcing it eventually drives masses to the extremes of either side.
It is not easy to get unbiased content on social media and youtube.

Yes, we're on a very bad path. And it's not slowing down.
It's going to get worse and worse and stay there. I have no clue on how to reverse it or even slow it down.

Similary, my easily manipulated boomer parents cycle between Fox News and Youtube constantly. Fox News obviously has their one-sided agenda and the algorithms on YT constantly feed their confirmation bias. Its the same ol' 50 year old "everything is turning us communist" scare tactic mixed with every other right leaning scare tactic they are so easily fooled by.
There are a lot of people from both aisles that shouldn't be able to vote and boomers should be included in that.
They also inject politics into any and all conversations.
I often find myself agreeing with their general attitude on some things but they can't help but add the low hanging fruit political talking point of the week that they hear on the aforementioned political outlets.
ETA: There are people on both the left and the right that should not be able to vote and I think boomers should be included in that group.
