No, I'm saying we knew, however there has never been one last this long. Im in a good situation right now financially, but I do work with some people who are having a rough time. Everyone can't be OT ballers like everyone on the rant.
ETA: I am saying many of us, including myself were not part of the last one. Hell, the last one I was a year or two out of high school, and didn't pay attention to it, because it didn't affect me.
Edit #2: After going back and reading what I said. How in the frick did you come up with

You need to be an OT baller to make some good choices with your money and have savings?

Holy santa clause shite. I never said I was struggling. I said I have enough to last a few more checks, however everyone isn't in the same financial situation I am in. However, if you would have caught me a few years ago, when I had my 3rd child and had to be out of work while she was in and out of the hospital, then yes, I would have been one of these people that couldn't afford it. Everyone has different financial situations, just in case you didn't know that.

As a person choosing to go in a career you would hope you would consider a lot of things. One being that the government can, and has shut down. So the fact you hadn't gone "through" one shouldn't matter.

You were only out of high school a year or two in January 2018?
eta: the one before that was 2013, were you in middle school, HS or having your first, second, or third child? That one lasted 16 Days.

last major shutdown. the 2013 shutdown, is when I was 2 years out of high school. I was working private prisons at that time. The January shutdown didn't affect us at all, as it only lasted a day or 2.

At the time I was 19 with 2 kids, so I was going anywhere that was paying good enough to take care of my family. private prison wasn't cutting it. Then I wound up liking the job.

Good luck to you and your colleagues. I don't wish ill will on any of you, but I have had to go through some very tough times and prepare for minimal to no pay, and no one gave a shite I was struggling with my family due to things out of my control. It was never in the papers, on TV, etc. So I have empathy, but I don't have a ton of sympathy.

Meant to put private prison wasn't cutting it, however that motherfricker was run like a state joint. It sucked.

Wrong, my buddies mortgage bank said, too fricking bad.
Yeah, I'm sure. They'd rather default than extend the payment based on the current situation.

Some live paycheck to paycheck so missing just one could certainly hurt them. Regardless the idea of having to work for virtually free is a pretty asinine idea. And the government has been shut down for far more then a week
This.
I'm more upset that we have a political system that allows this kind of shite tbh. And the politicians aren't having to miss paychecks.
Something wrong with that picture.

nobody expected the shutdown to last anywhere close to this long.
I think this the heart of the problem.
If you analyze it as risk vs reward, government jobs are usually a safe bet. Even with shutdowns, at worst you MAY have 1 check pushed back.
Nobody was expecting this to be a battle. Even the GOP weren't expecting this. 52-44 Senate vote shows exactly how much they care.

After just one paycheck? You don't have any more money? One lady on ABC said she had to go sell her plasma!
WTF people .. You didn't save anything? No wonder they have to get free shite just to live
That is people in general. I know a couple who learned their lesson the hard way ,but together they net close to 10K a month and at one point had to file for partial bankruptcy. They had less than 1,000 in savings with a family of 4. They both had federal government jobs and one was a retiree from the military. It is also just like those oilfield baws many of them did not have a dime saved and thought the oilfield money would roll in forever not understanding that oil goes up and down. One day you could be making 150K a year and then next day you could be out of the job. In America in general people have a money management and spending problem which is crazy to me.

News flash, some people don't give a frick when it comes to money.

They worked for the government where laziness pays and they always envisioned their job being 100% protected, well because government is god and god is the source of all that is good.
So they spend like government spends--who they work for.
frick em. I was able to save $5000 in less than a year making $22000 back in 2009 working as a pharmacy tech in Colorado while in school. I was single; lived 4 blocks from work; had a work phone; work vehicle; I didn't waste my money; lived in a big house where I rented the entire upstairs for $500 a month with cable included. I figured out how to live comfortably because I never wanted to stress about going without.
And now I am as well off as ever as an accountant and still save as I did then but a little more generous with my spending with more money at my discretion.
frick THEM ALL.

That's great. Now step into a reality where your earning ceiling might be 12 to 14 an hour.

Regardless, these folks are being put in a bad situation through no fault of their own, simply because Congress refuses to do its damn job. Any expression other than empathy for furloughed workers, makes little sense to me.

It’ll be 3 paychecks as of today. Still I’m fine.

The news media is once again showing their hate for Trump by seeking out extreme cases that is intended to paint Trump as the bad guy in this situation. These federal workers will not lose anything...they will get backpay once the DemoRats jump on board or at least meet Trump somewhere in the middle. Shame on any of them if they can't get by with a few missing paychecks!
