If only they had asked Oregon how they got their insurance program up and running.

I don't know. Are you going to start a thread every time an insurer changes their plans as if this never happened in the history of insurance before the ACA?
Silly. This isn't a small change. 60% of the Obamacare plans in MN are off the market next year. Think about the consequences of that. See any positives?

You should have read the article. They aren't changing their plans. They are taking them off the Obamacare exchange completely.

I googled, but couldn't find it.... What did the insurers ask for in regards to premium increases for 2015?

I saw something about county employees plans going up 5%, but didn't see anything about what the insurance companies asked for from the state

Good. Soon these 21st century robber barons will all be out of business and we can get to a decent national health care plan!

Yep. The sooner we communize health care, the sooner we can impact nitwits like you with actual European results. Like Will Rogers said, "there are three kinds of men. The one that learns by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves." It is going to take the experience of you, and others of your ilk, peeing on that fence to learn the lesson. Faster we can draw you to that fence, the better off we'll be.

Why? They are pulling out of the exchange. Not the state. Their products are still available. They just don't want to deal with the "strings attached" necessary to be on the exchange. And I don't blame them.

So since we don't have a state exchange, it looks like another very smart mover on our part. Kudos to our state leaders who seem to have a tremendous ability to look ahead and not a "make people happy now" attitude.

Grateful/proud to be in Louisiana.

And this happened with insurers all the time before the ACA. The difference now is that you can switch plans without worrying about pre-existing conditions keeping you from getting one. Also when you are shopping for a new plan you can get one knowing that it has certain minimum coverages.

If an insurance company offers premiums for $3K a year and quickly find out that they are taking a bath on the plans, they will drop the coverage. The government can't force them to keep you policy the same year after year. And I am not sure what the rules of the exchanges are, but I am sure there might be some penalties or rules keeping you from dropping coverages one year and then offering the same coverage at a higher premium.

Not exactly true. The networks aren't always disclosed up front and when they are the information might not be accurate.

And a lot of the "essential" coverage is useless to a lot of people for one reason or another.

I was referring to the minimum coverages specified for in the ACA. Also, isn't the minimum coverages standard at each level when you move from Bronze to Silver and so on?

Yeah, I thank my lucky stars every day knowing that any plan I choose will have maternity coverage

Yes, and luckily insurance companies know about subjects like math, logic, and risk to know that including that on your plan doesn't cost them (or you) anything.

No. It did not. It couldn't have. The state-run exchange didn't even exist before the ACA. You really should read the article.

The premise of the exchanges was that competition would drive the costs down because insurers would want the huge pool of PTs... doesn't seem to be holding true... does it?

Has literally NOTHING to do with this...Except perhaps in the context of...

Do you not think that being forced to take PTs with pre-existing conditions may have something to do with "taking a bath on the plans"?

LOL what?

You are a stupid frick if you don't think that you are paying premiums for maternity coverage, which you will never use. The costs of those services for the people that use them is being passed on to other.

If its not costing THEM or ME anything, then why couldn't I keep my old plan that didn't include maternity coverage and the likes?

I seriously don't know how these people make it through their days without impaling themselves on a dull object. The ignorant shite they spew in mind boggling.
