Their system is an amalgamation of authoritarianism governance with a quasi capitalistic economic structure.
Ironically, their economic structure is more aligned with fascism than anything remotely communist. Their governmental structure allows them to manage their populace, and give state support to Chinese based companies if needed.
Again, if need be, it is (in essence) a state supported company versus an American company. Hell, even Google bailed. That speaks volumes to me.

If the communist government wants to support a company in order to run its American competitors out of business, they will do it.
I’ll give you an easy example:
Segway was an American company that was thriving.
Suddenly a Chinese company comes on the scene. Its product is virtually identical in every way.
Segway sued (pretty much a guaranteed loss in China) for IP Theft. In response(?), they bottom out their prices. Segway is hanging on by a thread. At that point, the Chinese company then magically pulls out a wad of cash, and buys Segway.
The result, the lawsuit is gone, so are American jobs, and China now dominates that market.
That is just one example. There are countless others.
Again, the myth of China participating in a “free market” is pure propaganda.
