‘Worrisome’ study shows long COVID sufferers could lose up to six IQ points

Long COVID can reduce a person’s IQ by up to six points, worrying research has revealed.
A report in the New England Journal of Medicine found that COVID-19 was “associated with longer-term objectively measurable cognitive deficits.” Experts were attempting to learn more about the mentally straining phenomenon commonly referred to as brain fog, brought on by the virus.
Those who had symptoms for around 12 weeks saw the largest IQ reduction.
Unrelated research found that nearly a quarter of American Covid-19 patients experienced symptoms lasting three months or more.
“It’s not been at all clear what brain fog actually is,” author Adam Hampshire of Imperial College London told The Guardian.
“As a symptom, it’s been reported on quite extensively, but what our study shows is that brain fog can correlate with objectively measurable deficits. That is quite an important finding.”
n assessments of over 141,000 people, tests were run regarding immediate memory, two-dimensional mental manipulation, spatial working memory, spatial planning, verbal analogical reasoning, word definitions, information sampling, and delayed memory.
“The memory, reasoning, and executive function (i.e., planning) tasks were among the most sensitive to Covid-19–related cognitive differences,” the authors wrote.
The study also suggests that earlier cases of the original virus or alpha variant near the start of the pandemic carried the largest waves of cognitive decline.
It was also reported that there was “a small cognitive advantage” for participants who were given two or more vaccinations for Covid-19 and saw minimal effects from repeat episodes of the illness.
Although only 3.5% of patients in the Imperial College study showed symptoms for 12 weeks or longer, experts emphasized that this number is more concerning than it seems.

I'm guessing most "long covid" sufferers score higher on the drama scale than the IQ scale.

Is "Long COVID" really a thing?
Only ppl I've seen mention or "suffer" from it have been hardcore Covidians.

The vaccine doesn't work, the masks don't work.
So what are we to do?
Trust to luck I guess.

I am sure there are some people it really F'd up just like the vaccine has caused some people to become disabled. Both groups probably had some predisposed condition that caused ongoing complications.

Just a hunch. I would bet most "sufferers" are female progressives, between the ages of 45 and 70 who have three or more cats in their home.

CBS Sunday Morning is doing a celebratory piece on the MRNA Juice this morning featuring the two doctors who received Nobel prizes for developing the MRNA gene therapy that's saved countless lives from COVID19 infection, these people are still pushing forward with the gaslighting.

Find me a working conservative man with “long Covid.” You’ll have an easier time finding a unicorn.

That will knock them down to about 79 here in Louisiana.

58 years old and been in the workforce since I was 17. Worked my teen summers hauling hay, building fence, bush hogging, equipment repairs, etc. Mechanic, welder, millwright. Unvaccinated conservative and will stay that way. I believe in God, guns, and family.
Absolutely despise DEI, or any sort woke crap. Worked for everything I got.
Never had surgery or been in the hospital overnight.
Had long Covid, took me 6 months to fully get over it.
Here’s your unicorn.

Were you vaccinated for covid?

Uh, hate to hear you had a hard time with it. But taking a while to get over it =\= “long Covid,” at least as most talk about it. I usually see it in the context of people claiming that they are permanently affected by it.
