This is an interesting question with potentially circular logic given we live in a world governed by remnants of Obamacare.

Is having been infected with COVID (and having antibodies) considered having a preexisting condition? Would the insurance companies be compelled to treat people different based on that and only mandate the vaccine to those who can’t prove they have antibodies?

Personally, I would like to leave health insurance in the rear view. I’m sure I’m in the minority. Prior to the individual mandate that’s what I did. It was like having an extra paycheck and the money was put aside for medical or other emergencies. If my family is mandated to get the vaccine, there will definitely be a conversation about dropping coverage again like the good old days.

I don't think they can require that anyone be vaccinated. They would have to amend the contract and you would have to accept the change at least on an individual basis.

Without reading all the responses, the question should be if your provider says that they won't cover your medical expenses if your don't take the vaccine, will you drop them. If so, why?

Yes. And I’m going to start my own health insurance company that only covers the non-vaccinated. Think of the people in great shape paying premiums. I’ll never have to pay out a claim... hahaha!

They’re in the business of making money, which I’m sure will ultimately drive the decision. If unvaccinated clients are driving huge costs they’ll adjust accordingly. I imagine that’ll be charging a premium (like they do for any other health concern) to cover that cost, or the premium will be so big unvaccinated customers will leave on their own.

Ultimately that’s bad for business but if they (carriers) see the unvaccinated as bigger liabilities than they’re worth, you can’t expect them to sit back and eat the costs.

Will this same provider start requiring people to eat right, exercise, not smoke, get enough sleep, drink enough water, avoid excessive alcohol use, etc…..?

My wife’s company has a BCBS plan. They give a $50 credit per month if you get a physical every year. Based on the physical results you have to take a series of online courses to educate yourself on the bad stuff on your physical. We both do it because it saves $600 per year.

They also ask if you use nicotine products and make you sign an online affidavit if you say no.

Kind of sounds like insurance companies figured out a way to increase prices drastically, and then give people discounts to make people happy. Sneaky buggars.
