I highly doubt it. As someone else said, it depends so much on Congress. If Republicans sweep the elections and there’s a red wave in the House and Senate, maybe. But as it stands now, Republicans want to spend more on defense, and Democrats want to spend more on entitlements. They’ll “compromise” by spending more on both.

Our GDP was like $27.4T in 2023.

To make up the $984.4B 2019 deficit, we'd need an extra $4.922T, which is 18% of our current GDP. And that's just to get even at 2019 rates.

We would still have $34T on the books increasing every year with about 3% compounding interest.

I dint believe in a balanced budget. It’s to constraining to maintain a forward looking economy. We can cut some spending and we should but that’s never going to enough as the deficit isn’t simply a math problem with budget dollars but involves the math of the electorate.

You get a booming economy with more money flowing in people’s pockets and your more likely to get the needed cuts to balance growth and spending cuts
