As I've posted before, shows like Colbert, Maher, and Jon Stewart are not comedy shows.

They are the left's equivalent of the 700 Club: amen corner gatherings of the faithful who wish to receive the scriptural message in fellowship with other believers.
Kimmel doesn’t care about losing Republican viewers: “I probably won’t want to have a conversation with them, anyway.”
quote:

A CNN piece even deemed him “America’s conscience.” The press is nice puffery, but what matters to his employer is the ratings, which are notably up.
quote:

If this trend is inevitable, it’s not a good thing. It removes yet another neutral zone, free of social and political contention, from American life.

It means that the quality of the comedy on these shows probably goes down (agitprop isn’t funny), while the quality of the political commentary is inevitably poor; Jimmy Kimmel’s wholly ill-informed gun monologue subtracted from the nation’s understanding of the issue, as you’d expect of a comedian who is only paying enough attention to absorb the flimsiest cliches of the gun debate.

Finally, it’s conducive, appropriately enough, to political monologue rather than dialogue. As Kimmel’s dismissive comments show, it’s a short step from believing that you don’t need the patronage of the other side to feeling contempt for it. Stephen Colbert isn’t trying to convince anyone; he’s scorning and mocking Trump for the benefit of people who already hate him.
quote:

Johnny Carson once said, “I would love to have taken on Billy Graham. But I’m on TV five nights a week; I have nothing to gain by it and everything to lose.” Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel, competing for the crown in a much-diminished late-night kingdom, beg to differ, and unfortunately, they’re right.

As I recall, Fallon had to get in on the action because Colbert started killing it in the ratings when he started going after Trump.

Unfortunately for you Trumpsuckers, the polls are right. People hate the orange turd POTUS.

Politics aside, Fallon is more talented than Colbert and Kimmel by a wide margin and deserves to outlast them on that basis alone.

All they need is a few hundred thousand people to define "success" so probably

Absolutely. When Comedy Central had the Daily Show and the Colbert Report running, they effectively had a minimum 2-hour nightly propaganda block running camouflaged as talk/variety/satire.

I say minimum because they had a 3rd show for a while that I'm blanking on.

He was actually solid in the Colbert Report. It's just it was covered by a character and he's become obsessed with Trump which has ruined his interview skills

I always liked the Colbert Report and thought it did a good job at making comedy out of the news. But that was while Obama was in office, before Colbert went into full melt mode nightly.

The answer to op will be determined by mueller.
If trump is impeached, the bandwagon will empty with the quickness.
If trump resigns, the vast middle will turn on him.

If trump wins re-election the support for trump mockery will dwindle and people on ot will openly brag about pussy grabbing.

My SO was a big Kimmel fan and watched his show every night after the 10:00 news. However, she noticed the stark change in his monologues during the election to basically just be 5 minutes of Trump bashing every day. She hoped it would be dialed back after the election, but Kimmel still devotes the first 5 minutes of every show to bashing Trump. Many of the recurring bits are completely played out and not funny anymore, but they still do it. We've started watching Fallon more and more. He keeps it light, which is what we want from a late night talk show as we're getting ready for bed. She also lakes James Cordon for the same reasons.

I was a huge fan of Colbert when he was on Comedy Central, but without his character, he's just a sad, bitter, angry, leftist, and it's not funny or entertaining.

The sad thing is I'm really not that partisan of a person. I loved the Daily Show with Jon Stewart as he was able to be biased, but still funny. Trevor Noah isn't funny enough. Kimmel just isn't built to be a political comedian (he's a skit with celebrity's and hidden camera with people on the street guy), and Colbert just doesn't know how to balance the laughs with the punditry when he's out of character.

He has his moments. His standup is usually pretty solid, but he's just not good as a comedy/satirical news talk show host.

Both are democrat campaign extensions ain't nobody but Toddynthem want to watch this garbage.

Comedy with lighthearted jokes like Carson did with both political parties is long gone.

You won't catch me watching their unfunny trifling democrat campaigns.

Yes. It does.

Part of it though Trump feeds. With a Tweet or line in a speech that’s cringeworthy. People will tune in to see what these guys will say.

Jon Stewart was better than all of them at this though. Of course he and his writers. Apparently he finally got sick of it too.

It would be nice to see a conservative pull off the same formula. All you really have is Bill Maher when he goes on the occasional tear into his own party. But he of course ain’t conservative.

Well, be prepared for the last If. With the news breaking about the Russian uranium deals, there's more of a likelihood that Mueller goes to jail than Trump being impeached/resigning.

Kimmel is no longer merely an observer of the political process, but an active, partisan participant:

Jimmy Kimmel Accepts Roy Moore's Invitation to Meet "Man to Man"
quote:

According to Kimmel, Moore initially lashed out at the host due to a segment his show did the night before in which the host sent a correspondent, Jake Byrd, to attend one of Moore's rallies. Byrd, dressed in a shirt with Moore's face on it and a hat emblazoned with "#1," declared himself Moore's biggest fan and interviewed supporters outside of a church Moore was set to speak at. Once the rally got underway, Byrd was escorted out after repeatedly interrupting Moore's speech. As he was being thrown out, Byrd yelled, "Does this look like a man who hits on teenage girls?"

If Lauer and O'Reilly can be taken down, then any of them can, so long as there's dirt on them.

Seriously, does anyone think Colbert has no weird sexual behavior going on behind the scenes? The dude is a weirdo.
