Wildlife Agents Placed a Camera on His Property Without a Warrant, Then Raided His Home After He Removed It
The erosion of our civil liberties started a hell of a long time go.
quote:
Hollingsworth had been ensnared by a longstanding practice in which state and federal wildlife agencies intrude on clearly marked private property, and in some cases set up cameras, without permission from the property owner. Thanks to a series of court rulings stemming from Prohibition, the practice is legal. But it means that agents of the state can not only enter private property at their whim but install warrantless surveillance systems that can be used to incriminate individuals for activities on their own property.
That's how Hollingsworth ended up not only being arrested, but fined, stripped of his hunting license, and sentenced to probation after his home was searched by armed state wildlife agents. Hollingsworth's case illustrates an overlooked limitation to Fourth Amendment protections, in which nominally private property quietly becomes a tool of state surveillance.

If he wasn’t a property and home owner none of this would have happened!

These assholes.
They raided his home because he “stole” an unmarked camera on his own property.

2017, nine months before Hollingsworth ended up in handcuffs, he was confronted on his land by TWRA Officer Kevin Hoofman. Hollingsworth complained, "There ain't no sense in you coming down here every time I hunt, didn't nobody invite you," to which Hoofman replied, "When you bought your hunting license, you invited me."

Walk up behind the camera and let a branch fall in front of the US Fish and Wildlife Services' camera. Then set up your camera and surveil the surveilers and live stream it for the win.

They put an unmarked camera on his land and when he took it down and safely stored it at the direction of his attorney, they arrested him for theft.

HELLOFA damn thing to go through on your own property.

The Open Fields Doctrine permits them to do this. I’m a landowner and not saying I like it but it’s legal for them to be anywhere on my farm other than my yard without a warrant.

Apparently dumb advice.
You have to frick with these guys. If you know where the cameras are leave them be and figure out how to play games with them. Make them waste resources and/or embarrass themselves.

It is best to leave them alone and steer clear of them whenever possible...

If it was me (without the history), I’d assume it was a civilian vs an agent. Am I alone?

Exactly
All sorts of things you can do to have fun with that, you just have to get creative
I think a video of Bigfoot masturbating in broad daylight would be a hilarious start

Sounds like a Job for "The A Team".
But seriously. What could they do if a person rubbed their Hairy butt on the lens?

this, yet idiots want to argue that they arent above the law, and that need search warrants, despite clear evidence they dont.
they are lawless authoritarians with powers only rivaled by the IRS for denying you your rights

Fish and Wildlife persons have way more latitude than the average cop because they are frequently by themselves and the folks they are policing usually carry guns.
Generally F and W peeps are honest folks. I gotten two tickets in 65 years and both were dicks.

meh, a can of $2 spray paint from walmart works better, make it cost them money to usurp your rights.
