Why Wasn't Gorsuch Treated This Way?

For those alleging this is all made up and that this is what Democrats always do, etc, why wasn't Neil Gorsuch's nomination treated in the same manner? Yes, they fought his nomination--you'd expect the opposition party to do so--but why not go this route, if it's all made up?

And the midterms weren't around the corner. If the Dems get control of the Senate then they can stop future appointments.
There was only one reason the Dems didn't bring this up 6 weeks ago. It left too much time to resolve before the midterms.
