We shouldn’t. That deduction should be ended completely.

Notice how people started squealing like pigs when it was discussed.

I hope life becomes miserable for CA and NY people. Maybe they'll start electing people that don't steal all their money at the state level.

Devil's advocate: We in these high cost blue states tend to be more productive and we actually help to subsidize a lot of you people in red states like Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas, etc through our greater share of income tax payments.

You guys get goodies far in excess of what you put in, why can't we in ( NY, CA, WA, MA) etc, get a taste of it as well. We work.

I'm telling you, that is how they think

There shouldn’t be any deductions for anything.

The whole tax code is social engineering.

That feeling when...people from the Deep South talk about how much they’re subsidizing people from New York and California.

I mean, that's the exact same argument that the "1%ers" make and they're made out to be monsters

Why don't you just enact the same high taxes and live the high life?

Why must it be either, or?

A blue state should feel the full effect of its economic policies, and shouldn't mitigate certain bad effects by passing buck to federal coffers.

Yep, when you get down to it both sides in the argument are less than pure.

Who said anything about either/or? I’m pointing out the high comedy of people from states whose governments and services are directly subsidized by the tax dollars of wealthier states picking a bone because the people of those wealthier states don’t pay even more in federal taxes.

Blue states need to pay their fair share.

It always makes me laugh when leftists talk about "fair shares" but want people to pay different tax rates.

The idea that red states are “subsidizing” blue states might be the most laughably ignorant thing to ever come from the right wing echo chamber.

A state government will be more efficient in allocating it's own resources than federal government.

I don't mind the California model.
