For years, republicans in particular have taken pride in the word "moderate". To me, this largely defines a certain sort of person who finds politics, political ideas, discourse or activity distasteful. They commonly "nuance" their views on things to avoid any sort of ideological confrontation within their social universe. For politicians, being a moderate just means you have a wider lobbyist menu to take from. But for citizens, what we're witnessing today is what being a moderate gets you.

What infuriates me is that many of these formerly "I just don't want to discuss politics" crowd are now the same urging BLM loyalty, declaring asinine statements like "white silence equals violence" and virtue signaling anytime they think someone's paying attention. While moderate champions like the Bushes, McCain, Romney and the like worried about more polite discourse, the left galvanized a growing generation of angry, disaffected spoiled brats into weapons. Now these formerly delicate moderates plead the case of arsonists, vandals, thieves and murderers in the name of "justice". They empower a useless GOP. They keep ideologically bankrupt clowns like Mitt Romney relevant. It's infuriating.

We no longer live in a time for moderates. They can't be allowed to be fashionable anymore. If conservative thought has a future in this country, they have to purge these disingenuous "moderates" from their ranks and stop letting them claim the moral high road in political discourse.

The phrase "a reed swayed by the wind" comes to mind.

Nonsense.

One need not be a rabid ideologue in order to interested (and invested) in the political system.

I never said they did. But in my experience, moderates make a point of NOT appearing invested.

Is it physically-painful to be this stupid? I have often wondered.

True and moderates no longer exist thanks primarily to the left....they've pushed people out of the moderate zone

Moderates are double minded. A double minded person is unstable in all that they do.

Nothing wrong with being a moderate. I'd say the country could use a dose of moderation right about now.

So, everyone who isn't a right wing KKK member or a left wing ANTIFA member would be a moderate? I'm a moderate and proud of it, but I know exactly what I believe in and I'm not swayed.

There's nothing wrong with being moderate. I wish there were more moderates these days instead of either extreme right and extreme left. Partisanship is the problem with politics these days. It seems politicians can't follow their own heart or their own constituents wishes over the wishes of the "party." We need more middle ground, but there's been so many bridges burned with Harry Reid, Pelosi, Schumer, and McConnell in charge, I just don't think it's possible to find any common ground any time soon. This is why we need term limits. Get new blood in there instead of the same old same old from power hungry lifelong politicians.

I think we just see failures or simply lines of thought we disagree with from both sides of the political spectrum which causes us not to be too drawn into either cult side.

The “middle ground” is why every corporation in America is paying lip service to a racist, domestic terror group right now. The “middle ground” is why conservative opinions can be silenced with no blowback. The “middle ground” is why books critical of mental illness like transgenderism are being banned by major retailers as hate speech. We’re eaten up with the middle ground. It’s what used to merely be called conservatives that are now being wrongly branded as “the KKK” or nazis by contrast.

I have no problem with "moderates".

To me, a true moderate believes "a little from column A" and "a little from column B" instead of following a party line.

That is different than changing your views over and over to suit current public opinion.

People will lie and say they are "moderate" or "independent" when they really are not, and that's the problem.

You can still have convictions and beliefs while not having faith in either the Republican or Democrat parties. Just because you believe in a mixture of issues doesn't mean you have to be spineless. In the words of Aaron Tippin, you have to stand for something or you'll fall for anything.

There's still a large amount of independents in this country that don't want to be branded and labeled as one or the other because they do what they want. The left has completely abandoned the independents while Trump has embraced them. That's why he won and will win again.

If we don’t vote for Republicans, unelected bureaucrats will shut the economy down, cities will burn, and we’ll spend trillions in a matter of months!!!

Oh...

Nothing worse than a political moderate, perfectly fine with the status quo and not principled enough to stand for any meaningful change.
