I am not sure I follow

Small businesses typically do not have the ability to actually verify this type of thing beyond what the government requires to be turned in.

Point to where I wrote that. Oh...that's right, because, as usual, you just invent things. It’s getting old.

And there will likely be no consequences for the business owner who is already using the plausible deniability tactic.

If there are no consequences for business owners that employ vast numbers of illegals, the demand side of the issue will still persist.

The problem is that legit employers are doing what is required - checking the social security numbers via E-Verify. E-Verify is useless when the SS# is stolen, ancient, or whatever. All it does is verify that the SS# is legit.

The US needs to clean up that crap or the "plausible deniabilty" will not go away, and, in most cases, it is a legit defense.

Everyone always acts like it's super obvious who is illegal and who isn't (e.g. at these riots)

But ask a business to take advantage of this obvious fact and all of a sudden it's an impossible task, too much to ask. I guarantee you if the penalty for employing an illegal was $5K/day per employee, businesses would get WAY better at this "impossible task" pretty quickly.

I'm sure it has already been said, but it is because these business owners are political donors. That's the short story of it.

ETA: If you're from Texas your governor is one of the worst for running cover for these types.

Or they’re subbing out the work to someone who isn’t really vetting employees.

But we know who those companies are. We could shut them down in a month.

Federal law already says Illegals are not eligible, however state laws have created work arounds. Trump has given the green light for this to happen with executive orders but in state Governors and Legislatures have to take the steps. The Dems were working around state and federals through bureaus and agencies.

You're missing the point

Its our fricking government's responsibility to keep illegals out of the country and obviously the workforce, not small businesses. We pay lots and lots and lots of fed tax money to take care of such things. Why on earth would us, the taxpayer, be responsible for a federal agency's primary role?

I am not talking fortune 500 companies with billions of dollars at hand. I'm talking your TYPICAL small business (construction, food services, etc)
