I have family that lives there, so a little familiar with the state.

Other than Burlington, it is mostly rural and the demographics (mostly white), you would think would be right of center. Lots of hunting and gun ownership there as well.

No state went harder for Biden in 2020, and they have been sending Bernie to Washington for 20 years.

New England's Puritan ethos lends itself towards statism and big government.

Because they're leftists out of luxury not necessity. You'll find most people the loudest about progressivism are the most privileged our society has to offer. They believe in progressivism as more of a fashion trend.

Vermont for 170+ years was a small state populated by proud sons of the revolution. True patriots. But because it was such a small state, only a small migration of people into the state was sufficient for it to turn left.

That’s what happened. In the 70s and 80s, the state became a destination for earth muffins and hippies from the Boston and NY area.

Bernie types.

The state has more hippie “communes” per capita than any state.

Holy crap could you not be more wrong. Puritans and those with Puritan heritage (me) have literally been the base of the gop since 1856.

The puritans were deeply religious, hardy, and valued charity over govt.

New England today is primarily NOT POPULATED by those with Puritan heritage. Puritans left New England and/or became diluted

I take enormous offense to your wrong-headed, ill informed statement. It isn’t true.

They have no interactions with minorities and live in a bubble. A lot of liberal ideas would be great if everyone was middle class or above, worked for the common good and didn’t commit crimes

Look at what is happening to Tennessee now for guidance. Home of the Volunteers.

Now it is becoming a playground for Yankees. Old Baw from TN and I had a conversation about this behind the Dixie Chicken about this before the Bama game. Rarely seen a man so despondent about TN.

Live Free or Die is New Hampshire.

In Vermont there are nearly double registered Democrats as Republicans. In New Hampshire there are almost as many Republicans as Democrats

"Live Free or Die" my foot!

You're confusing VT with it's neighbor NH.

NH is getting taken over by "Massholes" from the south.

They’re liberal hypocrites. They act all proud and progressive but they vote in a republican as governor to make sure they don’t have stupid arse policies put in that will destroy their state and make it like CA OR and NY.

Virtually everywhere skilled trades like Electricians, Pipe-fitters, welders, etc high a high quality of life.. are left.

Their slogan is freedom and unity. They don't like scabs coming in from the South.

You really are a troll

The Puritans were religious zealots who came to America to build a theocracy that centralized power, in their hands, and tightly controlled the behavior of the public through intrusive governance.

Nosiness, unhappiness, and centralized government are their three defining traits.

Puritan culture dominates the North East, and much to our eternal misery, the national culture.

IMO, it truly is a bizarre setup. I can't imagine folks from Vermont or Maine would be much different than those from Montana and the Dakotas.
But, you're right, the NE always votes Democrat.
I'm going to offer up this reason: the media influence.

I'm guessing all the NE gets the bulk of their news stories out if leftist cities like Boston or NYC, thus the everyday citizen is subjected to their liberal slant and propaganda.
Whereas, in the more remote areas of the country, their news is more down to earth stuff, without so much liberal indoctrination messaging.
