re: Why is Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin not disclosing Trump and families travel cost?

quote:Well, I did specifically state that I saw a side-by-side comparison.
I’m sure you have facts for this, or is this just more unbiased opinion?
I do not recall the source of that comparison, but here is some recent stuff:
Another article says that Trump's costs for golf alone in first 2.5 years exceeded Obama's entire travel budget over the 8 years of his presidency. LINK
quote:
So far, President Trump’s favorite course is a tie between Trump International West Palm Beach in Florida and Trump National Bedminster in New Jersey. He has golfed at both 58 times since becoming president. Over the same length of his first term in office, President Obama’s favorite course was Andrews Air Force Base where he golfed 26 times.
quote:I WAS wrong on one point. I remembered that the number of Trump outings to DC military base courses was tiny and said "less than ten" to be safe." It appears that Trump has NEVER played at one of the local military courses.
During his campaign for president, Trump claimed that he would be too busy working to have time for any vacations at all. “I love golf, but if I were in the White House, I don’t think I’d ever see Turnberry again. I don’t think I’d ever see Doral again,” he told a rally audience in February 2016. “I don’t ever think I’d see anything. I just want to stay in the White House and work my arse off.”
Instead, Trump has been on the golf course two and a half times as much as Obama was at the same time in his presidency. And, because he insists on playing on his own courses in Florida and New Jersey so much, his golf-related costs to taxpayers are triple that of Obama’s in the same time period.
Most of Obama’s golf rounds were played at military bases within motorcade range of the White House, which cost taxpayers relatively little. In contrast, 68% of Trump’s golf days have been at his resorts that require the use of Air Force jets, Marine Corps helicopters, and Air Force transport planes to move his motorcade vehicles. His trips to Mar-a-Lago also require Coast Guard boats and ships to patrol the Atlantic Ocean and Intracoastal Waterway

I'm absolutely fine with the FOIA game. If info can be had via FOIA, so be it. If there's some legit and legal opposition to such a request, so be it too.
In Trump's situation, I absolutely can see why he and his people would push back on such requests given the obvious mission the Democrats have been on since he was sworn in. That means extra attention to defending against them if and when it's obviously a fishing expedition, and one way to defend against is to use every bit of delay allowable. Which in this case, there's been no denial of records, just not capitulation to the precise demands of Democrats in terms of their timeline.

Yeah, just make them wait a YEAR to get them. Those pushy Democrats.

The Dems want it within 120 days of passing of a proposed bill that beings SS back under umbrella of the Treasury Department. So how abt we just wait and see when (or if, I guess) that bill is passed. The proposal, negotiation and passing of the bill has a great deal more to do with the timing on this than anything. But I notice the article conspicuously stays away from that....of course in favor of the perception that Mnuchin and Trump are in complete control.

Hmmm...You will excuse me if I'm a bit skeptical of anything coming from the Huffington post and "according to a HuffPost analysis".
Besides, Trump seems to get more work done away from DC than any of the politicians who stay in DC.

The way B H O and his family spent money on travel, I would be surprised if Trump sends more.
Except it isn’t. Trumps taxpayer cost on his golfing trumps alone now has out spent Obama family travel cost through his 8 years as president. Trump accomplished this before 3 years.

The Stages of Denial
1. “Trump promised he would be working far too hard to EVER play golf, so I am sure that he hardly EVER hits the links.”
(show them the raw numbers ... that he golfs every fifth day)
2. “Yeah, but Obama hit the links FAR more often.”
(show them the raw numbers ... that Obama golfed only every 12th day)
3. “Yeah, but Trump owns golf courses, so Obama’s golf cost more.”
(show them the data ... that Trump’s golf outings cost 3x the cost of Obama’s golf outings)
4. “Yeah, but the Obama family spent more on ALL travel than the Trump family.”
(show them the data ... the Trump golfing ALONE in 2.5 years cost more than ALL Obama travel in eight years)
5. “Yeah, but I. do not trust the Lame Stream Media.”
(show them that the data comes from a half dozen different outlets and ultimately from government records)
6. “Yeah, but I don’t care, because Orange Man Worship.”
(facepalm)

Not reading 7 pages. What’s the precedent? Disclosing first family travel cost. Is that normal ?
Posted on 1/12/20 at 9:12 am to AlwaysPutsSeatDown
Treasury does not track this stuff. WaPo full of excrement. OMB is more likely the place
Posted on 1/12/20 at 9:36 am to AlwaysPutsSeatDown
What was Michelle's posse's travel co$t?

reports of this nature are not usually “released” as such, more that they are a matter of public record available to anyone with the credentials to see them, or a FOIA request.
It’s only when they are requested and then refused that this shite becomes an issue. They are begging people to ask why they aren’t available, per precedent

How do you reconcile Mnuchin literally stating a specific timeframe when the records will be released -with- request was refused?

Huffpost? Love that bastion of unbiased journalism.....
Maybe you can find an article from the Atlantic?
Also, how much is Trump being charged at the golf courses he owns?

my point is that it only becomes a story when they are refused. If they are going to release them later then just release them now
It’s pointless

But even Feinstein et al don't expect this information now. They insisted that the information be transmitted in full within 120 days of the passage of the bill that will transfer the Secret Service into the Treasury Department.
That bill is merely in the negotiation stage currently. Within 120 days of passage.
I think what's to be read between the lines here is that there are administrative considerations that that are playing a role in the timeline/availability of the information. It's a quite large task to move an agency like SS into a different department of government.
