whereas republicans wait until Election Day?

What is the reason for this wide discrepancy?

The USPS publicly endorsed one candidate already. I'll let you figure out which one it was.

They're the ones handling all the ballots.

Trump told the American people that the virus was nearly over and that the US Postal Service was fraudulent.

...Hence the waiting.

Democrats are typically off work all the time, Therefore they go early vote. Replubicans usually take their 2 hour break while working to go vote on election day

Dems pushed voting by mail. Republicans don't trust it.

90% of federal employees are dems. Dems cheat if given a chance.

Ok. So why such a discrepancy in mail-in?

The fact that some states already have over half their votes in before Election Day and the vast majority are democrat, just seems crazy to me.

I don't think Republicans waiting until Election Day is a good idea. You never know if Democrats will use Covid to close polls or whatnot. Better to bank it in early by voting early just like the D's do.

Media instilled the fear of Covid and voter suppression. However, they will still cry foul of voter suppression no matter what.

Republicans tend to be afraid of change.

All I can say is I was in and out of voting in roughly 5 minutes. I’ll never wait until Election Day to vote again.

It also depends on the state. Here in Columbia, there are only a couple places you could early vote. And those lines were ridiculous.

Easier to just wait to vote tomorrow.

In previous election cycles early voting favored Republicans and election-day voting favored Democrats, but as you say there have been different strategies pushed this cycle. The president himself seems most responsible for many base voters to shift away.
