Why is patriotism an evil word to the left?

Simple.... they don't think that America deserves to be great... there are other countries as good as if not greater than us, so who are we to celebrate being great?

Because "Patriotism" represents an elite-ness that separates us from the rest of the world. And liberals want to be BE LIKE the rest of the world. Hence, their love for Globalism.

I don’t get why ‘freedom loving’ Conservatives think it should be illegal to burn the US flag

I'm a conservative but would like to try an explanation. It appears that being a proud, patriotic American focuses on American Exceptionalism. Many or most liberals don't adhere to this as they see it as arrogant or demeaning to everyone else who isn't American. What seems to be missing is that American Exceptionalism is a concept that can be shared by everyone. If America does well and those values and ideals are utilized in other nations then they too can be exceptional. They can be proud of their exceptional nation just as Americans are. The concept of Exceptionalism is not meant to demean other countries but to inspire and lift them too. This is what liberals miss. They are too busy trying to divide us instead of truly bringing everyone together. Division and demonization is their source of power from an deceived base. This deceived base will forever stay indentured to the Democrat party until they wake up and embrace American Excepionalism. The stronger our country is then the better off they will be regarding employment, lifestyle, family.......FREEDOM. There are many other issues that lead to a healthy nation such as religion, family values, etc. But, you have to start somewhere. MAGA!!!

I think it's a combination of:

-Them picturing the caricature of the gun toting, flag waving, redneck which they think every non-Democrat is
-Them thinking it means you don't care about the rest of the world
-Them thinking it's racist because of the bad things America has done in the past

It's funny though because they fawn over most foreigners level of patriotism for their own countries. And yes, many other county's residents are way more patriotic as a whole than Americans.

But ohhh its bad when Americans are patriotic.

Oh. The left pretend to be as patriotic as frick when they wanna spew bile about their Russian conspiracy.

Identity politics are cancer and that is all nationalism is.

I think you missed the point, and I think a lot of people confuse patriotism with nationalism.

I don't know who said it or how long people have been making the distinction similarly, but a patriot is proud of his country for what it does, and a nationalist is proud of his country no matter what it does. It should be clear that there are a lot of people who call themselves patriots long after they have started creeping over to nationalism.
