What kind of actual exports or manufacturing base do they have? How many vehicles are Mexican made?
In 2020 Mexico exported $500 Billion in goods.
Mexico’s biggest export products by value in 2020 were cars, computers, automotive parts or accessories, trucks and crude oil. In aggregate, those major exports accounted for 32.8% of overall exports sales from Mexico.
Mexico is the world leader for exporting trucks and ranks among the top countries for global sales of computers, cars and automotive parts or accessories.

Major lack of navigable rivers inland, lack of natural harbors along its coastline, Central plateau isolates population centers from coasts for export, geography makes governance from any single location difficult, tremendous cultural differences between southeastern Mexico, Central Mexico, and Northern Mexico.
Mexico faces a lot of similar problems as sub-saharan Africa.
What the frick are you even talking about?

Mexico has social classes just like the U.S. The upper and middle classes live fairly well. The lower classes are the ones who are really poor and they are the ones who attempt to migrate.

Lacking financial structure/access. They don't have access to credit like we do here in the US. A good bit of them don't even have bank accounts.

Besides corruption, the entire country has poor geography compared to other more successful ones. No deep water ports, lots of mountains running throughout the center of the country, and water is unevenly distributed in the country to say the least. Hard to have a good highway network in the country when a lot of those roads go through mountain peaks and have a lot of seismic and volcanic activity.
Huh?
Mexico is actually a country rich in natural resources!!
The problem is corruption and about 400 families owning the majority of the wealth in Mexico. Talk about real white privileged (most of those families are first and second generation with roots in Europe)

Also top 10 in “white line” manufacturing and exporting, BIMBO is the biggest bread maker in the world, CEMEX is the biggest concrete producer in the world (or top 3 at least) there are big heavy weight companies in Mexico

It's also cultural A close friend that was born in Mexico Told me a huge difference in the two countries is in America kids are told they can be anything they want to be and in Mexico the kids are told you are worthless and won't amount to anything.

Ever see narcos Mexico and Lord of the Skies (Amado Carrillo Fuentes) the richest drug dealer who ever lived, was answering to some businessman....that was Carlos Slim.
Wrong, he was answering to Carlos Hank Gonzales not Slim!
I went to school with his grandson Carlos Hank Rohn who now runs most of the show and at my age is worth a few billions.

The reality is Mexico has been an incredibly unstable country politically and economically since gaining independence. Much of it is due to geography, but some is due to culture. It tends to go in cycles: 1. Regions rise up in rebellion because their needs aren’t met by central government 2. Civil War erupts resulting in an authoritarian strong man rising to power 3. Authoritarian strong man brings about a period of relative peace and economic prosperity 4. Strong man dies and replacement either cracks down on dissent more strongly or attempts to decentralize power and liberalize. 5. Regions rise up in rebellion (rinse repeat every 20-30 years).
What?? Lol you couldn’t be more wrong!! Up until the 1930’s maybe, but after that PRI took over and had 70 plus years or one ruling “party”, no uprights, no dictators, etc….in Mexico you can only be a one term president period!

Why aren't Americans trying to sneak into Mexico?
Because you can buy your way in easily. Mexico is where you go to retire early, Like Chapala, Ajijic, etc, where all the businesses cater to you, the law enforcement caters to you, the local government caters to you, and everyone speaks english.
Godfather owns a million dollar villa in Mexico. Retired early and lives like a king. His neighbors, all expat white people living like fat cats because the COL is low and their property taxes are miniscule compared to what they'd be paying in most parts of the states.
People used to come to the USA to get rich and chase the american dream. They still do. Easier than ever since we're printing like crazy and the borders are open. Even if the system crashed, they'd still be doing better than if they stayed at home.
The division in Mexico between the middle class and lower class is MUCH wider in Mexico than it is here. So people leave.

Mexico is ranked in the top 15 wealthiest countries according to GDP. In 80’s they adopted a free market system(market socialism) in which buyers and sellers set the price for goods. This started a waterfall of corruption by corporations and the government. With no government oversight they could charge whatever they wanted.
Drug cartels, gangs, illegal immigrants into the US etc.. are the results and not the cause.
They do have a new political ruling party and there might be some hope for the Mexican people which means fewer illegals from Mexico. The problem now is immigrants from other countries that Mexico don’t want either.
This year they raised the DAILY minimum wage 23% to around $12.
Over the last few years the healthcare has really improved. They have above average health care system that is pretty cheap. Some American companies insurance policies allow them to go to Mexico for treatment. There are even some illegals that go back and forth for healthcare reasons
Cost of living is one of the biggest problem Mexico suffers from.
Example
Average cost of living in Matamoros, Mexico for a family of 4 is around $1,750 or $650 for a single person. I’ve been there a few times with my cousin who lives Port Isabel, Tx. It is not a place I would dream of living.
4 people making $12 a day for seven days a week= $336 a week
They can now afford the cost of living if all four in the household are working.
Most people are poor not because they are lazy or won’t work. It’s because most people have been treated like they live in a 3rd world country when they didn’t need to be

The Spanish run the country for their own benefit, and they have good lives. The other classes may complain about it, and the misery that they experience, but on the other hand look at what the natives did to Venezuela when they took power.
The Spaniards did this everywhere they conquered. This has more to do with why Mexico, most of the Caribbean, and South America are so “poor” than anything. The Spaniards had no interest is improving the lives of the “natives” and only wanted to enrich themselves with their natural resources.

A lot of people think all liberal arts electives should be eliminated from college programs especially in STEM. This thread is a good example of why classes such as geography, history, economics etc,. are needed. Without them you end up with a bunch of engineers, accountants, and managers that know little about the world they work in.
