Seriously people where do you get your shitty information from??
There aren’t any Spaniards running the country at will, 90% of business owners in Mexico including the top 1% are descendants of Spaniards that came to Mexico during the Spanish civil war in the late 30’s.
By now those running the business and indirectly the country are all 1st or 2nd generation Mexicans!!

You want an in depth history lesson? It goes back to Cortez.

So that's why Argentina is run so efficiently? The corruption is cultural and it goes back generations especially in Mexico. The Spanish emigres of the 30s learned from those who had been there for generations.

If memory serves, a lot of the big names in Mexico are not even really Spanish by background. Slim is Lebanese, Hank is German and Vicente Fox is Irish.
I met Zedillo the former President at a party in Connecticut. He comes across as a very nice guy. Said his Dad was a mechanic in a place on the border with the US ....Mexicali if memory serves. He can speak English without an accent once he gets going.

I just got back from Mexico City. I was very impressed. It's a beautiful city. Tons of history. Not that expensive either. I drove from Mexico City to Acapulco. Beautiful drive thru the mountains. But very remote. Only 2 cities on that long stretch of highway.
Acapulco was very cheap. But I don't think it's an international tourist destination. Other than me, I saw 4 other white people while I was there.

So you named 3 people that you know of due to their popularity in the news. Lol
90% of the big families in Mexico are for the most part of Spanish descendants.
Just from the top of my head
Modelo Group-Spanish descendants
Cemex-same
Industrias Mabe-same

Plenty of Americans retire in Mexico including a famed economist. i would rather live in Mexico if I had to work in Southern Cali. Drug legalization would do wonders.

So basically you say that the Spanish reinvade Mexico and gain control because they speak the language and the begin exploiting the poor Mexicans after 1935?
And here I thought some of the old line Mexico City families with those big mansions off the Reforma and up in places like Bosques in the mountains, et al were doing a pretty good job

Not sure what your point is, but I am thankful for the immigrants (mostly Spaniards) that settled in Mexico and created new industries, better jobs and wealth to many natives!
My family is one of those families and what was started in the 1940’s as a mom and pop shop today provides thousands of well paying jobs not only in Mexico but also in other parts of central and South America.
Nobody is exploiting anybody, on the contrary we are providing advancement and long term careers for those who want to work hard and become part of something!!

No doubt. I was confused as to what you were getting at and your stance regarding the Peninsulares. Still am based on other posts. Were you suggesting that the Spaniards help accentuate the corruption or that they actually tempered the generational corruption?

Ok
#1
NOBODY and I mean NOBODY uses the word “peninsulares”.
#2
There’s corruption all over the world, nobody is inmune to it, some countries or cultures have a bigger problem and is more prevalent….no doubt! I mean here in the States our first family is corrupt to the guilds.
Corruption is a cultural part of Latino America, the immigrants did not or were not the cause of it.
In reality most Mexicans not involved in the government want to get rid of corruption and are tired of it! Believe or not a great majority of Mexicans can’t stand it and are honest people but their hands are tied because otherwise you don’t advance! Those holding the corruption strings for the most part work for the government!!

I watched this YouTube video on Sunday morning and thought it was an interesting explanation... Why Is Latin America Still Poor

The Spanish never left. The upper class are the direct descendants of the original Spanish colonists.

So basically you can blame the conquistadors and encomienda. Then Napoleon.

I'm talking about the immigration from Spain during the Spanish Civil War to Mexico. Which it would seem was not necessarily a bad thing. The YouTube video is pretty instructive from a long view context.
The way colonization was conducted and how the two regions evolved are instructive. The key seems to be how the indigenous populations were exploited and indigenous density.
