a. And Texas is much more purple than Louisiana. Beto almost won
beto has run against two very unpopular republicans in abbott and cruz.
Couldn't beat cruz in a Trump midterm and will likely lose to Abbott despite the entire state being without power for a week because it got cold.
And he is the closest a democrat has gotten to win a state wide election since the 90s

Exactly. Huey Long is one of our most famous governors.
Most Repbulican politicians in this state would be democrats if the democrats hadn't killed Blue Dogs. That is the truth. You have to be a progressive now so no room on D side for Blue Dogs so they went Republican. That is an issue nationwide too. But more so in LA.
It is why the Ds are lockstep and the Rs are always so divided.

The Ghost of Huey has haunted the state for 90 years, its not going away.

I agree with you for the most part but let's not act Louisiana is some kind of bastion of conservative policy. Louisiana's regulatory system is similar to something you would see in Jersey or Illinois. Half of our Republican legislators are boomers who switched parties in the early 2000's. A quarter of electorate will pull the levers for a Democrat if he says he's "pro life."

Huey Long was a progressive, er more of populist but look at his share our wealth plan
quote:
An individual's right to wealth would be restricted to:
a maximum INHERITANCE of $5 million ($100 million in 2022);
a maximum annual INCOME of $1 million ($20 million, 2022);
and an individual's private WEALTH/FORTUNE to $50 million ($1 billion in 2022).
quote:
The taxes raised would guarantee every family what Long called a "Household Estate" of $5,000 (a Basic Household Grant worth $100,000 in 2022) and a minimum annual income of $2,000–3,000 (a Universal Basic Income to each household of $40,000 - $60,000 per year, 2022), or one-third of the average family homestead value and income.

free Higher education (including degree-level study at a college,[10] and vocational internships/training required to enter professional organisations);
a mandatory 30 hour (four day) working week and a minimum of four weeks paid vacation per year [10][11]
a Pension of $30/month, $360 a year ($600 and $7,200, 2022) paid to every person from the age of 65;
for direct Federal assistance to farmers;
public works projects, including a $10 billion ($200 billion 2022 equivalence) land reclamation project to end the Dust Bowl;
specific to the WWI veterans, benefits would increase, and World War I veteran's adjusted Compensation certificates, due in 1945 would be issued immediately.
free medical services for all citizens, and what he called a "war on disease" led by the Mayo brothers.[

There are liberals left in this country?
No liberals. They became progressives, the authoritarian far left mob.
We're in a post liberal age, where progressives and certain right wingers believe freedom has been a bad thing.

South Louisiana's white Democrats were much slower to convert to the GOP than other Southern states. A lot of that had to do with unique culture and larger than life politicians like EWE holding sway over Cajun country. Louisiana is a red state by now but there are still remnants of the old Democrat party, hence how someone like JBE can get elected.

MS has 1 bigger city thats a liberal shithole. LA has 2
Louisiana has 3. NOLA, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport. Shreveport is by far the smallest of the three but it closer in size to Jackson.

I don't know about more liberal. But SE Louisiana is Catholic, and we are different from the rest of the bible belt full of protestants. Like we are more liberal when it comes to alcohol.

LA will elect Democrats at the state level because we have bad Republican candidates usually.
