The financial pressure the sanctuary cities are starting to feel will put all that nonsense to bed by the time a democrat is in office again

I think they will campaign on not deporting people who are already here, and less on continuing to haul people in. They might just be stupid enough to not realize immigration is what really cost them the last cycle

It would be foolish to convince yourself that Iran’s population will do anything at the urging of the U.S. and Israel. Even though most of the population hate the mullahs, they have even less desire to work for us.

Any revolution in Iran has to be a domestic, internal uprising or it won’t succeed.

I wouldn’t be so sure.

My father in law is from Iran. He came to the US when he was 16 right before the Iranian Revolution. He still has some extended family in Tehran and a few other parts of Iran that he talks to semi-regularly. I think people are under-estimating just how much the majority of Iranian people fricking hate the current Regime. Especially the younger generation over there. The Iranian people have been continuously fricked over for like 50 years and they recognize this is their best shot at getting a Regime change and possibly their last chance. I think the people would need some help but people over here don’t realize how pissed off the average Iranian is.

I’m not talking about the people being happy with the govt. Nobody knows the majority view of the people. The govt has control over the people. They’ve shut down the internet too so the citizens can’t use social media.

If I'm Turkey, I'm worried about this. Most of the traffic is headed northwest towards Turkey and Azerbaijan. They sure as shite aren't heading towards Pakistan or Afghanistan

The Iranians are Shia and the Turks are Sunni Muslims. Oil & Water enemies from day one even the great Sultans from the Ottoman Empire couldn’t control Iran for long periods of time.

Pakistan is no Friend of Iran either. They traded some missiles recently.

Yeah. There's probably a natural inclination to not team up with the people bombing you even if you hate your own leaders.

I’ll admit to not being that familiar with the region, but my sense is that pre-revolution, Iran was significantly more westernized than Iraq, and probably less tribal (i.e. multiple factions). If that’s the case, they may be better prepared to have an effective post Mullah government. Would welcome thoughts from those more familiar with the region.

They did try in 2009, 2017, and 2022.

But, I think the current attacks by IDF have galvanized them, for now, in such a way that makes a coup less likely.

Conversely, I think it will happen on a delayed reaction after the bombing ends. Months? Years?

I'm thinking months.
