Why do we rely on Russia to get us into space?

Losing an independent method of manned spaceflight for this long isn't acceptable, especially when we have to put Astronauts in shitty Russian rockets

Truth of the matter is that the U.S. and Russia have both been helping one another with their space programs for quite some time, even before the end of the Cold War

FYI - it's about a wash. They send up our astronauts and we own the solar panels on the ISS and sell them electricity to run their portion of the space station.
