Who says they want to be liberated?
You can't liberate brainwashed people that will fight back against you and stand with their dictators.

We did invade North Korea in 1951. The Chinese came to their defense. We reached a ceasefire agreement/truce with the Chinese and North Koreans in 1953.
Invading North Korea now would violate the ceasefire agreement, and there are no guarantees that the Chinese would not come to North Korea's defense again.
At some point the Chinese will not continue to support the authoritarian government of North Korea. When that happens it won't take long for the current regime to be overwhelmed by economic collapse and pressure to reform. What needs to happen is China and South Korea need to work out how they are going to pick up the pieces when North Korea collapses because there will need to be substantial relief efforts to feed the people and provide them with medical care as well as make infrastructure repairs and improvements.

Because a lot of our boys will die. In case you haven't noticed, the American people may need those guys in the immediate future.

It's been a common American mistake for decades. People think the rest of the world is like us and long for freedom. That is absolutely not true. Shite, most Americans don't want to be free anymore judging the personalities the majority put in office to represent them.

Give me the best reason why we should lead millions to their death?
I never said we should. I lead the post with a question.

Watching the Frontline episode from January. Someone help me understand why we aren't trying to liberate those people?
We only bring freedom to those who have oil.

Is that their policy? If we attack them, they attack South Korea?
The regime would go down hard. But on the way down, they'd hit SK and Japan and kill millions of civilians.

Think about it.
Would you follow Obama into battle?
You first.
Go ahead, Obama's got your back.

They can be liberated without us intervening militarily. It would be a complete shitshow with us going in there. Let the Kim Jong house of cards gradually collapse on its own.

Because the 2nd most populated city in the world is only 30 miles from the NK border. Damn you dumb.

In all honesty, if you move away nukes, South Korea could take North Korea by itself.
But you can't. And North Korea can quite easily hit Seoul. The civilian casualties would make America's brush wars in Afghanistan and Iraq seem benign. Even if it doesn't go atomic.
So our nation, and South Korea, is playing the long game. We are hoping that if we wait long enough North Korea will fall apart. Then South Korea gets to spend a generation doing what the Germans had to do, rehabilitating an entire country so they fit into the modern world.
Does that suck for North Korea and the South Koreans who will eventually have to take on the burden of a dysfunctional country? Yeah, it sucks. It is still the smartest play we can make right now. Conquering North Korea, even if the Chinese don't intervene, would make our adventures in the Middle East seem like baby poo.
