Why do we have a Federal Reserve?

I clearly remember learning in 8th grade about how hard Andrew Jackson fought the Second Bank of the United States.
But why did the nation eventually create the Reserve, arguably a worse version of the bank with less restrictions than POTUS.

Do you know why the Second Bank of the U.S. was established and how the Federal Reserve differed from it both from an operational standpoint and legally?

The Fed Reserve was founded at the end of the 1913.
From 1854 to 1913 (59 years) we had 15 contractions in the United States. They averaged just under 16 months in average duration. Expansions averaged about 24.5 months in duration.
From 1914 to present (105 years) we’ve had only 18 contractions. They averaged just over 13 months in lengths. And expansions averaged just over 50 months in duration. 50.
That’s why we have a Federal Reserve.

We went off the gold standard in 1973. In part because debt held by China alone was greater than the value of our gold reserves.
