re: Why do old people go to the default argument of $6 coffee when talking about affordability

But it isn’t a relatively small number of irresponsible people. Over 40% of all Boomers have ZERO saved for retirement.
That’s why that 40% isn’t retired. I’m early GenX and retired in December of last year before I turned 60. When I retired, my house was paid off and I had less than a year to finish paying off my truck. Come November I’ll be completely debt free with a retirement pension and a significant 457(b) account that I don’t plan to touch unless I have to.

Well Trump already started some of it, IF Vance gets elected it will kick into a higher gear. you will see a total reshaping, tearing down of all institutions like entitlements, university system, public education system, healthcare system
Will be DOGE on steroids, regulations cut everywhere
Max energy policies of all kinds - nuclear, oil and gas, solar, wind
Lots of tarriffs and reshaping of trade deals
Will see family policies similar to Hungary's under Orban, will see very limited immigration and less interventionist foreign policy than what we are seeing currently
max deportations and crack down on Islamic infiltration
Will also see repeal of gay marriage and the outlawing of gay adoption and surrogacy
Also wouldn't be suprised if 17th ammendment was repealed

quote:AARP's 2024 survey found 1 in 5 Americans age 50 and older (youngest boomers were 60 in 2024) have zero retirement savings — that's 20%, not 40%. Further, those "zero savings" figures generally do not count pensions.
Over 40% of all Boomers have ZERO saved for retirement.
But none of that is really the point, is it? The point is transference of blame vs accepting responsibility, planning vs pining.

This is another function of social media. “Why should I accept that life is difficult and full of struggles when I have a flood of commenters and “influencers” telling me that my struggles are really a previous generation’s fault.”
By accepting that, the effort to be successful is reduced due to feeling helpless. I think “helpless by choice” is pretty accurate in describing some of these finger pointers.

There's a (former) regular poster here who might even be older than a boomer who brags about getting starbucks 365 days a year.

Did this (former) poster continuously bitch about "unfairness" and "affordability"?

Muh high dollar coffee.

And it's still stupid. Has nothing to do with age.

And it's still stupid
If an 80y/o multimillionaire with a consistent annual ROI > than his expenditures loves to go to Starbucks, chat up the baristas, then sip his coffee and read the paper, it's not stupid.
If a 25y/o struggling to make rent does the same, stupid is not a strong enough word.

………… that was my entire point. 40% of a generation being within striking distance of retirement age with no retirement money would seem to indicate some poor financial decisions in that demographic.
Also, just because you may have made great financial decisions doesn’t mean that the rest of your generation did too. That was my point.

Btw, my initial point was not to say that younger generations don’t have spending problems, they do. My point was the look-down-their-nose boomers haven’t exactly knocked it out of the park in many cases either.
quote:
According to research by Vanguard, only 40% of baby boomers aged 61 to 65 are projected to retire successfully — meaning that more than half won't be able to maintain their current standard of living into retirement (1). By comparison, that number is 47% among Gen Z workers aged 24 to 28, who will make up the next wave of retirees.

How has Vanguard projected the percentage of Gen Z workers that'll "retire successfully" thirty years before they begin to retire?
What would make this more useful is to know the percentages for the Silent generation and Greatest generation. It's possible, and maybe logical (?) - that with life getting better and easier for Americans over time (a fact), the percentage of retirees meeting Vanguards' definition of "successful retirement" increases.

You forgot the unicorns, faeries, and leprachauns.
Nick Fuentes is winding you up just to watch you go. You know that, right?

You can brew premium coffee in your own house for less than 25 cents a cup and it takes 5 minutes.
You can't brew beer at home like that, so the comparison is null.
Yes, I know you can brew beer at home but it's still pretty expensive, not easy, and takes more than five minutes.

Yea but how holy roller can you get about coffee if you were spending on a couple beers and a pack of cigs?
Things have certainly changed but I don’t think coffee is the breakdown of the average Americans finances compared to their parents

Even if that were actually the case (the data posted above shows that it is not), that would still be six percentage point below the national average.

At the household level, Federal Reserve data shows that nearly 46% of American households have no money saved in specific retirement accounts

It is because stereotypically (a) that 'someone' is doing a selfie complaint video about how hard and unaffordable their life is, while (b) sipping a Tall Caffè Latte Signature with mocha drizzle in the driver's seat of a BMW 3-series.

People have become so stupid about that these days that they think that tariffs are right of center and Trump investing public money into private corporations are "conservative" things to do. Your comments indicate that you are likely one of those people. So I really don't care whether I fall into the "Us" or "Them" category in your populist fairyland.
Also, your comments indicate that you are very likely an incel who sits around not only blaming everyone else for your failure in life, but seething and actively plotting revenge when the official Revenge of the Nerds apocalypse happens.
Which is why I know you're lying about Fuentes.
